In the truest RS6 form, now a new pump is on order I fired it up earlier and the PS pump was as quiet as a whistle! I wonder if a bit of air had got into the pump. Will keep the new one as stock at least.

Yes they can be weird.
My water leak has disappeared. Spent months topping up each week. Then fortnightly. Then monthly. Now nothing.
In a way it’s part and parcel of owning the RS6 but can be very frustrating.

I am wondering if a little snifter of air had got in. Given I stripped the car last october, put it back together by jan, literally drove it to the end of the road and back and then parked it up until 2 days ago, possibly a bit of air was still in the system that cycled it's way back round into the pump. Will keep an eye on it.

Lol. We have the same at our house. My boys (Archie 5 & Benjie 3) have imaginary go faster buttons fitted in the car. Obviously is only takes the car from 30-50 when we go into a national but they love the way they get pinned back in their seats. The only down side is they get a lot of “treat daddy’s car with respect” and “just eat the sweat, don’t put your mucky paws on the glass”.
Glad to see the RS gods have smiled on you today.

I am sure we all went "far too fast" in our youth. Although, to be fair "far too fast" in my 1098cc Mini was not "actually fast" at any point - but it felt like the world was about explode. At 55mph.
When the pump arrives, I'll go and threaten the car with it and all the swear words that come with a job too, and see if it behaves.

This is a silly question I know but I’ll ask it anyway. Is replacing the power steering fluid on these cars a simple task? I’ve no documentation of the fluid ever being replaced and I’d rather try this before thinking of replacing my pump.

Pair of hoses and hose clips, NSF running low down from below chassis rail into lock carrier area.
Those are the lowest point of the PS system I believe. Easily accessible and easy to disconnect.
Although some people just use a Turkey baster to suck it out of the reservoir.

Great stuff, thanks Mɐʇʇ. Got to be worth a go before adding a pump to the list of invoices.Mɐʇʇ wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 1:22 pmPair of hoses and hose clips, NSF running low down from below chassis rail into lock carrier area.

Here you go. Old pic, certainly not Instagram influencer worthy, from november 2014 when I first took the motor out to remind myself what went where - but it's those 2 hoses with clips, one connected, one disconnected already.
Bumper already off in this photo, but lock carrier still in place.
You can access them from underneath with the tray removed.

Re this. What did you do with your air intake pipes from. Have you just painted them or are they replaced with something. Looks quite smart attached to the red siliconeMɐʇʇ wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 11:23 pmI am wondering if a little snifter of air had got in. It’s a stock system.IMVHO all the aftermarket solutions are compromised, either via flow rate or heat management.
It’s stock inlets, sprayed in satin black along with Roose motorsport hoses in cherry red (good match to the RS6 colour), topped off with black mikalor hose clips.
(8 needed cos the don’t make them long enough)

I like it mate. Subtle change but suits it
Re: ££££
Thank you. I can't take credit for the idea, although I did refine it with the black hose clips - another member here had the black intake & red hoses, which like you, I thought looked really smart.

Matt. Picked my car up a day early. The original sump pan looks good to me if you still want it.
Collect or delivery mate. Pm me and let me know.
Ps following the gearbox service the car drives like a dream. So smooth I cannot tell when she shifts up or shifts down.
And even better news. My tiny oil leak is now sorted.
Superb ending to what has been a crap three weeks. I think I have finally found a local garage that I can trust.
