How would the originals be done, same idea, just a decal stuck on the caliper? Would it be lacquered after to seal it then?

I don't know for a fact, but originals look painted on, to me, so would imagine lacquered also (as would ideally be the case with any decals too, imo).

When I plan to do mine I'll be putting a clear coat over them.

Definitely, but would have to be heat resistant i imagine though

I'm not going to do the whole caliper, just the flat face, and likely with them still on the car.
