At the same time - 500 quid labour? I'd take that one on the chest for this job - compared to the time & effort of a full engine out...
Labour for the rack change would have been £324 inc VAT and the replacement rack about the same.
Fortunately I've landed on my feet for once this time round but all ways round cheaper than an engine pull.
Current:
2004 RS6 Avant, 1999 Range Rover, 2008 Iveco Daily (faster than the 6 hands down)
Past:
2008 Jaguar XK, 2006 S4 Avant, 2009 Mini Cooper S (Wifey's daily drive)

VW505.01 only. 10W40? :shock:

Good result on dodging a hefty bill.
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

Always the lowest W rating!!! It's an internet myth that you'd ever want a higher W number.
Castrol Edge 5W40 FTW.

(Unless you're running a 2 stroke detroit diesel - then maybe straight 40 weight mineral oil).

They're good lads down there. Glad you've dodged an unnecessary engine pull :bigblink:
