Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?

Thanks. I'll grab 10 minutes this evening to see what's going on with it and probably remove the external connector.simonpoulton wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 1:03 pmIf it helps, the proper audi harness (black, nicely taped up etc) fits into that red adaptor, then the yellow, green and blue segments all combine and fits into the stereo.
I'm as interested as anyone else as to what's happened.
I've just spent 25 minutes chatting to Chester Transmissions again about possible causes, how to diagnose from my current stand point, what to check and prices for replacement parts.
The last time I did this, I wasn't married and didn't have two sons... life has changed a little

Look on the bright side... once this car's finished you probably won't be married again.

So it will be easier now - two sets of little hands for the fiddly bits and someone to help lift the damn gearbox!

No problems

Oh I know how lucky I am with my wife. All of my vehicles will go before she and the boys do.

I checked the back of the RNS-D... it definitely doesn't have any more empty slots for the plugs to fit into.
Re gearbox, I've been looking at the intput and output sensor readings with the engine running. The input speed is registering the same as the engine and it doesn't change when a gear is selected. The output speed sensor is just registering 0.
I also tried the stall test. Put the car in gear (obviously running) and with your foot on the brake, accelerate with the other foot. The rpms should be held at around 1,600rpm if there is drive through the gearbox. Mine... = loadsa revs!!
Please DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR CAR FOR MORE THAN A FEW SECONDS IF AT ALL. You can damage the gearbox very easily and it gets really hot... really quickly. Don't blame me if you blow it up doing that.
I'm still wondering if there's any oil in the gearbox...

I wonder if the g-box ecu will shut drive down if the output sensor is faulty? I have a feeling it will, but the first thing and easiest thing to check is the oil situation, personally i'd have done this before doing anything else to save further damage to the box. No oil in the box, there's a chance you'll have screwed the verter and pump by now.

Sounds like there's no ATF or the pump is borked.

Yellow goes next to the Green - they can be joined together and then that goes ion to the radio

Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
Agreed but checking the oil the drive isn't an easy job on these cars.chunky79 wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2017 6:54 amI wonder if the g-box ecu will shut drive down if the output sensor is faulty? Having just done a compression test on the engine (all good) I took a few minutes to look around underneath and there's oil blathered back from around the gearbox... A quick touch and look and it's yellow. I jacked up one side quickly to confirm... I don't think that there's any oil in it! As the PO was driving it when it failed, I have no idea what the internals will be like now
Next job, order a filter and some oil...

Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
Unfortunately not. At the time, I was running a company that was housed under the same roof as two others that were service/tuning based and could use the workshop at weekends.
Now, I'm at home only and will be doing everything on the drive... On the floor.
I'm hoping that there isn't too much damage and that it'll regain drive once there is oil in it.
Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
I did my box with the car on axle stands & an engine crane. As long as you've got a creeper trolley, it's tolerable.

Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
I was taking a gearbox out of a telehandler (jcb) the other day, I tried using a creeper board for the first time doing this job (done over 100) and I couldn't undo things, the bloody board kept moving around

I bought a creeper trolley about 6 months ago and have yet to use it. My driveway has a slight incline so I'd probably end up rolling into the middle of the road...
Where abouts are you based RS2? If your local to me and need a hand with the spanners I'd be up for popping over to lend a hand.
