Pretty sure the HD is better quality, but also think they're a bit firmer as a ride as well.
Sure there was a thread/ discussion on it years ago Mav.

Sounds like it going from what's been said. If you're happy with OEM then they'll be cheaper than the Meyle HD.
It's also down to what you can get hold of where you are.

Re: On the road again...
1. The second web link does not mention to take off the rear disk assembly, while the pss9 guide does.Mɐʇʇ wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 1:20 pm@Mav.
Here are the 2 different DIY guides:
Top : viewtopic.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=81926 (The Shopp way)
Bottom : https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel49.shtml (The Kris Way)
The only deviation from the bottom method that I made compared to that DIY was I didn't use the jack to load the suspension - I put the car on ramps all round so that weight distribution was all spot on on the wheels before tightening all the suspension bolts to spec.
I take it as read you've also got the factory manual I provided (it's in the DIY) downloaded and installed as a reference as well.
I won't bother posting on this thread again since it's obviously annoying people.
Is it because the RS brake assembly is much bigger?
2. Regarding the load suspension before thightening all bolts and nuts (speaking about the 4 upper controlarms), is it an option to remove one and line it up (heightwise) with the old one next to it?

Re: On the road again...
I can't actually answer that since I only followed the Kris way. You're doing it the Shopp way - he'll have to advise.
But I decided that, although I will, when I have reason, do the bastard bolt (and in fact, refurbish all the front suspension), I wanted the less aggro way in the short term - otherwise the jobs snowball. And all the rest of the bushes and balljoints on the front end are in good nick at the moment - so I leave them alone.
And frankly undoing it just because you want to is fine, along with not undoing because you don't want to. I suspect 80% of the cars here will have aggro getting that bolt out - so according to Tony, you kind of all need to be rushing out and undoing that bolt now.
"There are only two reasons not to remove the pinch bolt:
1. The bastard bolt is siezed
2. Don't want to know the bastard bolt is siezed
"
The 3rd reason not to undo a bolt is because you don't need to and you don't want to open a can of worms this week.
Anyway, the goal of this thread is just to answer Mav's questions when he needs a little guidance.
I've edited my signature just to make sure everyone knows the deal.

Re: On the road again...
Oh, and question 2.
I don't know. I didn't like the idea of jacking up the wheel as per the Kris guide - that felt very dangerous to me, one wrong move to disturb the jack and you've got the whole assembly springing back down to clonk you on the head. Or you take too much load off the stands and they more or slip. Urgh.
I hate even having the car up on stands to work on it - even though I've spent a lot of time under there when doing engine out/in jobs. So I have all the little things I try and do to make it safer.
To ensure the car is settled properly before torquing up the suspension bolts, weight on all 4 wheels & level is the only way I'd ever do it. I have 4 ramps just for that purpose.
Kris even calls out being VERY careful in his guide.
I note Shopps guide doesn't - maybe not necessary since the top method doesn't undo any of the inner bolts? I don't know, he'll have to advise.

Re: On the road again...
I would say the disc and caliper where removed for a little bit more room, and only takes about 5 minutes each to do.mavada wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 8:09 pm1. *to note, this is just my opinion. Have to be careful cause ichbinasshole (Mr I'm better than everyone else) is very concerned about folk helping other forum users out, against Internet policy by the sounds of it and only HIS opinion counts.
