I had exactly the same thing last summer while on holiday in France.

I could not for the life of me think what it was, and kept trying to clean it off with alloy cleaner, before eventually it dawned on me after ruining 2 washing up brushes and a new sponge that it was grease, not brake residue!!

Duh!

Yes, I had that too, but stupidly decided to ignore it.

It's the level sensor for the xenons, like bam said. The arm should move with the subframe, but not the body.

The CV boot is booked in for Thursday and I'll try lining everything up to get the bolt out today. I'm going to jack the car, jack the weight of the wheel and I'll try elevating the brake disc, while rotating the lock bolt - I might give myself a reacharound at the same time just to ensure things stay complicated (the hardest part about all that, is explaining what I'm doing to the next-door neighbour or to the police, if I partake too long). If that fails, I'll try the same procedure but then try to push the wheel off with a jack, it should work if it's all lined up straight. There's a chance the hub thread could be shot (or will get 'shot' during the push off), that'll be tres annoying.
If all fails it'll be someone else's problem come Thursday.

Or to avoid the complicated explanations you could ask the neighbour to pull on the wheel, then while he's straining, gently cup his testicles. He will be so surprised that he'll jump backwards holding the wheel and conveniently yank the bolt out of the hub

It's the latter, Shoppinit is the most experienced member on this board and he's been through a seized locking bolt before.

Shop, do I get more shock with cold hands, warms hands or hands with a fresh rub of "Deepheat"?

Mmmmmm, Deepheat.

Nah, warm hands. You need the creeping horror of suspicion followed by the sudden terrible realisation to get the best backwards jump.

See, words of experience right there. Now, fingers crossed my neighbour isn't going through an experimental stage...

Threaded wheel locking bot removed today by Big Dave and LIttle Dave @ MRC. No testi cupping method used and it took about 1 minute, flat.
Big Dave just flicked the big cordless wheel bolt remover to "remove", rev'd it up and yanked on the wheel with his free-hand, Little Dave came along and gave a little tug too, with both hands, he's still young (...and yes, I'm still talking about removing the wheel).
The CV boot was finished about an hour later. Superb.
It was good to meet Charlie the workshop dog too.

No cupping involved at all? Not even with charlie?

Was was knackered then? The thread on the bolt or the hub?
