Sorry to disagree, Dave, but the pins are for retaining the friction material, not for the wear sensing.

Well, assuming that their site isn't pure "sales BS", I'll stand corrected.
However it does raise another question - why do Audi think their pads need the pins? Presumably they were not satisfied that the bond between backing plate and pad material was strong enough under full load (could be a temperature issue). It will certainly cost more to pin and bond than to bond alone, so there must be a reason somewhere!
