I would say Well done to you, it is a great achievement for the 6, but honestly think it is driver/car error on the fezza's part. a standard 6 by the laws of physics cannot keep up.....483 hp v 450hp and 1450kg v 1865kg.
The sheer torque of the RS will help low down, but the fezzas power comes in at 0rpm and finishes at 8500rpm.......
Now if you had nudenuts C6RS6, I reckon you may have a real chance of getting far enough ahead before the twisty bits to stay there. But that has 700hp!
Well done again anyhoo, its always good to make em worry!
I thought a F430 Spider would be fast?!?

All I can say is that the Ferrari dropped into 2nd and booted it and my standard RS6 kept up and even gained ground. Given that the driver had his mate with him (if I was him I wouldn't be letting a 7 year old Audi pass me....particulary after just lashing out over £100k!), I find it unlikely that he was holding back, especially on the straight clear stretches of quiet A85 tarmac. The engine note and length of time the Ferrari was held in each gear was a clear give away that he was trying his best to pull away. Once I had over taken him he gave up and dropped behind a caravan.
I completely didn't expect such an upset. I appreciate that on paper it would seem a no-brainer that the Ferrari would win, however in this practical comparison the RS6 came out in top. Perhaps my RS6 had been remapped by previous owner? Chaps name was Rob Laughton and the original number plate on the car was GJ03 NZH, anyone know the car?
How would I know if it had been remapped other than checking the boost with VAGCOM?

I must be getting old & you can be sure i very much like to put my foot down every now & again, but even my love for all things RS would push me to feel that the Fezza driver was playign with you & not giving it even close to full beans.
Also not comfortable with "right under his rear diffuser" & "slipstreaming him". I know we all like a play but this sounds like a moment that should have been kept to a track. Final point, how do you know what gear he dropped to, the V8 in a 430 is very high revving so not always a need to dop as lower gear as you'd expect.

My comparison is not a paper one, it's a real one through ownership of both. Seriously, the 430 is much quicker, but I don't doubt what you are saying. As someone else said, it comes down to balls. The RS6 has a much bigger margin of error than the 430 and the consequences of getting it wrong are much lower.kaisersolsay wrote:I completely didn't expect such an upset. Re mapping, I sound like a broken record now, but quite honestly who gives a hoot what power the car shows as running on a dyno if you can't see a real world difference. Try doing a run from 30-100 and time it. It's replicable and in reality a far better indicator of how quick a car is than "pub talk dyno readouts". About 10 secs is what Evo did it in, but that seems slow to me. Mine is just over 8 secs but I think it may either be very healthy or might have been mapped at some point in its life. Anything under 8 is very quick, anything under 7 is stonkingly quick.
Is that a 30 - 100 run starting from a constant 30, or starting from below 30 and starting the stopwatch at 30?

Gawd - sorry Mooch! I genuinely laughed out loud when I read your quote.
