Trip to France - Passat or RS?

I have a similar dilemma.

Summer vacation to Normandy from Dumfries, take the A6 2.0TDi Le-Mans or the RS6...

I know which one I want to take, but the 50mpg and the same legal cruising speed makes me reconsider the A6!

OMG- You have to take the RS6.

I did the trip down to Angers and came back from there via the Pont du Normandy, got there at sun rise and it was just spectacular, sun rising above the bridge, beautiful morning, nothing else around. Just amazing. Then the morning peace was shattered by the thunder of milltek heaven as I disappeared in to the sunrise at some miles an hour!

Incredible bridge- Take the Rs or regret it forever!

Couldn't agree with Captain Kernow more! Take the RS every time, what's the point of having one if you can't enjoy it fully. Been to the south of France a couple of times with mine, very enjoyable and you'd think you were driving a super car (which of course you are really) from the reaction of some French motorists, waves, thumbs up, grins etc.

Just come back from the Howgill Fells and had to take a 2L TDI A6 Le Mans as mine in for new brakes (again!).........It was so nice to get back into The Plus...........Go on, enjoy yourselves!

Sell the Passat. Buy fuel and toys for the RS6!

The main reason I can justify keeping the RS6 is for long journeys to the continent.
That's what it was built for.
The rest of the time is spent pissing around doing 100 mile round trips for a pint of milk.

If your impressed with that bridge, get yourself down to the south of France and see the Milau bridge. That's one amazing bridge to travel over, you get some great views as you can see for miles around.

Off to Dordogne end of May ... "no question" ... its the turbine powered RS6 !

I have covered 6,000 miles in the last year and 3,000 miles of this were two trips to France, one to the Alps and one to the South of France.

The roads are so smooth compared to the UK and you can travel at much higher speed and unless you are unlucky are unlikely to get caught speeding (I was unlucky !).

My average MPG was 24.8mpg which I was pleased with especially as this was at high speed four or five up with luggage and compared to my UK average over the same distance at 16.3mpg.

One thing that was noticeable though is that the French generally (Le Mans excepted) do not know what an RS6 is and take no interest as they think it is just an estate car (well in the case of an Avant). I only had one comment in three weeks when a French man getting out of a white van in a car park said "Bon voiture". I only saw one French registered RS6 in 3 weeks and 3,000 miles and that was on the French/Swiss border, so they are very rare there.

Probably cost you £300 more in fuel than taking the passat so if that's an issue take the bluemotion

If you do about 2000miles

If you plan to go anywhere near the Alps then take the rs6 though but I reckon you'll have fun on those roads in either.

Just a thought......if you go through the Mont Blanc tunnel it'd sound way better in the rs6

I have the same battle in my head everytime we plan a big trip. Love to take the rs6 everytime but part of me would be wanting to keep the miles down.

Yes - amazing bridge - it's so much larger than you thought when you get there.

We did the bridge a couple of years ago, when we'd been staying in Deauville on the way back from a skiing trip - we were in the B7 S4 Avant, and it was still fun in that without the extras gee-gees!

Luckily this time (or thankfully depending whether you like the longer drive from Calais) we're sailing from Portsmouth - Le-Havre this time because I've booked a cottage in St. Marie du Mont (D-day stuff galore to find) we will have to traverse the Pont du Normandy again on this trip.
