There may have been a manufacturing problem that was never corrected. Depending on what machine made the struts, maybe you could get a poor seal or not. Since the system is 'closed' unlike, say, a JCB in which you can top up the hydraulic fluid, any small leak would rapidly result in a complete system failure. If there were 4 machines making DRC struts, and 3 of them were crap, then maybe you got a car with 4 struts from the good machine. If you see what I mean.

It's still inexcusably bad engineering on the part of Quattro to design a system so flawed, and worse: so prone to catastrophic failure with no planning for repairs other than complete replacement. That they appear to have bothered to come up with a retro-solution so astoundingly late in the game is frankly a slap in the face of everyone who has suffered because of <beep> DRC.

Quattro, are you listening? BAD ENGINEERING PRACTICE.

I agree - far too late for most. If this is a true fix then like you say - a real slap in the face indeed.

How cruel that there eventually becomes a fix and by that time you've either fitted coilovers or are past the 6 year deadline. It's not cricket really.

I still say that if this went to court as a class action, there would be overwhelming evidence against Audi. How could you not win? Repeated trips back to the dealer, reapeated remedial failures, inadequate charge procedures, inevitable and expensive replacement coilovers and disgruntled and mentally spent owners not in the few but in the hundreds. I suspect that this whole saga isn't over yet.

The one and only reason I didn't take matters any further in the end was purely because I didn't have to pay for my coilovers, but that is not to say I don't feel truly sorry for the people who are suffering ongoing problems, week in, week out.

i think given its on the RS 4 (much higher volume) and RS 6 C6, it was inevitable there would be a fix (could be speaking too soon) as some point

or else, there would be court cases im sure

I think the real reason there has been no court action over this is that after all the time wasted going in and out of dealers who say there is no problem with the DRC when it's blindingly obvious there is a whole lot of owners just cut their losses and got rid of the DRC for coilovers or became so pissed off with Audi they ditched the car and bought something else !

And these customers will be unlikely to purchase Audis top end products again.

I know I'll be reluctant to spend any of my hard earned cash with them again even for servicing.

Same here. This is why I'm looking at BMWs again - despite saying the same thing about BMW a few years ago!

when I first took My RS6 to Audi because I thought I had problems (poor handling, skipping sideways, clonking etc) the Audi Master tech took it down the road brought it back after a 15 Minute test drive and told Me it "was fine, they're all like that",

One Week later I had to take it back for a transmission leak and asked if they could have the wheels off and check the dampers for leaks. Sure enough all Four were leaking !!

They took it in and replaced all four dampers and recharged the valves (under warranty) and I was still unhappy it still had handling problems so I took it back and the Tech said he thought it was fine,

So I took it to another dealer and paid for them to drain and recharge the system again,

It did improve it but not for long Three Months later and I had it inspected again and found another leaking shock.

So I ditched the DRC and were for coilovers.

Less than a Month later Audi admit the problem and offer to upgrade the DRC for Free,
I would have qualified for that and if I had know it was coming I may have opted to wait and take the New DRC.

My experience ,,,,,,

Poor service poor customer relation poorly trained technicians.

These cars are too complicated for the average technicians to be expected to comprehend and they dont see enough of them to become truly familiar.

That's why if possible I'll only let a specialist like Grizz or MRC work on my car not an Audi tech who usually works on 1.9 TDis even if it means driving 300 Miles to do it.

I think there are some Audi Techs that are highly rated. Rob at Camberely is one.

Just because it has Audi over the door doesn't mean you will get bad service. These are all different franchises. As with all things in life some will be good and some will be bad.

I have heard good things about Camberly and wish I had them as My local dealership.

Because they have a reputation for good customer service and well trained staff lots of people have taken their RS models there so they have the experience and know how to service and repair these cars correctly........
But Rob and Camberley are (IMO) an exception...........

I've had poor service, bad information and poorly trained techs at Three different Audi Dealerships.
Not to mention the damage they've caused when My car was left with them.
Last time I spoke to my dealers they told me My 6 was due a Haldex change FFS !

I would expect this if I was dealing with some backstreet garage and paying £20.00 Per Hour but at a Franchised dealership and at the prices they charge ???

Pull Your Fu(king socks up Audi !

Just as an update. I decided in the end to go with the PSS9's. And what can I say. They are awesome. Had some issues when they were first fitted with rear calipers and xeonon leveling but all sorted now.

I got all new DRC on the goodwill warranty, all 4 shocks plus the 2 valves and all new piping with the little non return valves inside as well, Audi has to give warranty on all new parts fitted for 2 years, had driven car with the DRC fooked, with this new set up it feels great you can really throw the car into corners with confidence, it took along time for Audi to get the set up right but now i think its great, just hope it lasts, time will tell. after all i have paid nothing for all this work so well apppy.
