"If you think the RS is expensive, try running a Ferrari." FWIW, the Supersprint M5 saloon in the original post isn't 400bhp.

The main difference is the 4wd, which takes more of the engine's power, but means you can put more of the power down in inclement weather. I know which I would rather drive my kids round in.

It doesnt make any sense to me. I dont want an e55 i prefer the rs6 im just looking for explanations
I would hazzard a guess that the rs6 is not 500hp but more likley standard 450 or maybe 480-90. the AMG weighs less and is not losing 100hp through the transmission......
Not many "claimed" 500hp cars actually make that.

cornishmooster if your rs6 is not 550hp wont it struggle against a new m5 if looking at the utube video the rs6 is slower than the old m5... or am i missing something?

Look at it this way, a fettled RS6 Avant will do 200mph. If you want something faster pay the extra £60k and look at the new RS6 and get that chipped.

i dont really get the point of this thread...RS 6 is very fast, once mapped, its stupidly fast
I would advise you go and drive a well sorted RS 6 and see how quick it is

unless you need to be racing it for money on drag strips, you will do well to find many cars out on the road to rival it in real world "duels" - well, im only speaking from experience in my 1yr of RS 6 ownership....

and, imho, the E55 and M5 looks wise dont even come close to the exclusiveness and meaness of the RS 6, and I include the V10 in that

I have driven a V10 M6 on Snetterton in the wet. It must be similar in terms of handling and yes. To reiterate what Mooch said, I can imagine on the road in the wet with unknown road surfaces traction.....YOU WILL PROBABLY DIE!! I had the M6 running out of lock prcatically every corner I turned into!

kelvin1000 wrote:hey guys, so i was thinking that RS6 are becoming affordable and are quick and practical. I have spent a few days on here researching and looking at some other sites also. Reading through here (although it is bound to be a little biased) you would be led to believe that an Rs6 can take out a fair few cars including amongst others (and i quote) 'TVR's lambos nobles' etc.... yet most of the videos and road tests i have seen say that RS6's only trap at like 105 in the 1/4 (slower than e46 m3) and seem to lose to alot of less powerful cars.

The most recent being this one when i looked at utube a tuned rs6 cannot even see off an e39 m5 which are a lot slower than nobles and the like (e39 m5 vs 550hp rs6). Looks like a legitimate vid to me??

coupled with astronomical running costs am i missing something here. Are RS6's overated, should i consider an rs4 instead?[/i]
maybe that 6 was carrying a wardrobe in the back? :) i've seen a vid on you tube of a b5 rs4 against a e39 m5 and there was nothing in it the m5 made no ground on him and both cars were stock. a mapped b5 is in a different league.

something is wrong in that vid because i think a standard 6 would walk all over a m5 and an m3 is no contest. i had a run against an e46 m3 a while back and after the spanking he got by the 4 he put his car up for sale!!!!!

I can compare the handling characteristics directly with the Evo as my last car was an Evo7 and in fact I had both insured for a few days.
Obviously the Evo is in a completely different league handling wise but the RS6 really did surprise me when I heavily leaned on the engineering!! It will attack the B roads with impressive returns!
Especially through the steering which upon first experience seems very benign and almost ponderous with a very thick lazy feedback but the more you get the car onto the grip limit the more it seems to wake up and start to communicate. Considering the weight and size it doesn`t fail to impress and puts a lot more nimble cars to shame.
A can only imagine what an RS4 is like at the limit!!!
i've had my car reading 185 on the speedo and it felt like 135 totally stable and planted, no drama no fuss and it was still accelerating and my car is standard!!!

Since when is youtube a reference for anything except watching idiots break their cars or rev the bollox of it :)

Still... when in Rome: M5 gets thrashed by RS6:

That video says it all - slush on the side of the roads, the M5 driver would need to stay well out of the slippy stuff. Where as the RS6 just puts his foot down.

If i was that M5 driver my ringpiece would have been whistling Dixie!

4wd is what allows us to stay on the roads at higher speeds and lateral forces than 2wd.
4wd is what reduces the chances of us 'doin a Piquet'

So it absorbs power - its a fair swap IMHO

The Rs6 is not the fastest car in the world , True..But with a stage 1 remap , 500 bhp , 560lb torque and 200 mph top end what can you but for £13k-£20k that'll do all that...

It´s my rs6 in the vid. I felt that something was wrong with the car that day because i was also running against a brand new s4 and lost. I have driven 12,0 sec@1/4mile a month ago so when i got home i noticed that i had a boost leak somewhere. RESULT=CRACKED INTERCOOLER :(

If you are worried about running costs forget about it.

I think the fact that the prices have gone down had meant that people have bought them that can't afford to run them.

Then they don't get looked after well and it makes it harder to find good examples.

Put it this way. If you can't afford to spend on average £800-£1000 per month on a car (not including buying it) then forget about the RS6.

If you don't believe me then do the math. Fuel + Insurance + Tyres + Discs + Warranty + upkeep + servicing + extras due to wear and tear then divide by 12. Mine came to £1000 per month for the first year and £800 for second. My very first service bill was £1400 and that was not Audi (would have been £2000) - had to get timing belt kit plus extra plus pads all round plus normal service.

I love my RS6 but people need their eyes open when they buy one and don't want to see any neglected :blackrs4: :kissmyrings:
