on way to airport yesterday up the M11 was a Brabus S class V12 followed by a Lamo Gallardo Spyder (driven by a blonde)

The GTR is an interesting one as it "only" has about 470hp but when he floored it at about 60mph he just took off and I was not even in contact.....

I remember when 220 bhp was a lot... Sierra Cosworth anyone?

Now anything under 400 is underpowered it seems.

Remember when 200bhp was the limit any car could have useable through the front wheels??
Cars have got heavier though so I guess the massive power outputs we see today are justified for the constant evolution of performance figures needed.

I have to agree entirely. Its the problem we have with the government/EU - they say all cars must be so safe so manufacturers add weight. Then to make the cars fast, they have to up the capacity, force induction etc and that increases fuel consumption so we get stung. Lucky us. New Golfs, Megans and even Boxsters will have smaller displacement - flat 4 rumoured for the baby porker.
