Yes, many thanks to Grizz and Pete for fitting my H&R's and Cooling Ducts, ready for the Nurburgring this coming weekend. I know you always hear people saying that coilovers transform the handling of the car but IT IS TRUE. My RS is now a million times better and looks double hard decked to the floor. Thanks again guys and all the best for the future at UNIT 20. :beerchug: :kissmyrings:

LOL! Haven't heard that saying for years! But I know what you mean, I also have the H&R kit and it is superb - both handling-wise and looks-wise.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to comment on the phaeton cooling upgrade that Grizz did 6 months ago.

Prior to the upgrade, the only time I had ever heard the discs doing their 'clinking' thing when very hot was after the one track day I did at Brands. I was prepared for this and know it was normal.

However, since the Phaeton upgrade, every time I get to my destination, even when I've been driving sedately, I hear the discs clinking! One can only assume they are not actually getting the same cooling they got before. On the contrary, possibly less!

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have noticed that the backing plate itself sits very very close to the disc all the way around, except for where the scoop funnels air in.... Could this be the reason?

YOu are also down on power and up on consumption... Have you checked to see if your brakes aren't binding?

Well this has been happening before and after I changed to the Mintex pads. The chap I used to change the pads didnt comment on the calipers being seized, and I havent noticed it feeling like theyre binding before or after the pad change...

Is there an easier way to check for binding pads? I imagine just let the handbrake off in N on a slight hill and see if it rolls down freely?

After yo'uve been driving for a while on the motorway, slowly come to stop without braking too hard (say at some services) and see if your disks are hot. They should be cool.

I was going to suggest jacking it up and spinning the wheel, but you'd have to have both front wheels off the ground I think, because of the torsen diff.

Very strange .. If your fronts are getting that hot your could have poor rear braking effort ...

I have done rear discs and pads since having you put them on Grizz; wouldve thought that would improve rear braking effort.

How do you normally set up appropriate front/rear brake balance?

I've just been down to my Audi Dealer to replace my rear top mounts, and they have told me that the part 8E0512121D no longer exists and has been superceeded by 8E0512121E (which is for a 4/6 cylinder A6) can anyone confirm if this is correct or was he talking cr*p?

Can't see how he would have got it wrong. If he put that part number in then his system would have brought up the correct new part number of the replacement part. Still... never underestimate the incompetence of a stealer...

Once bitten twice shy with VAG parts departments. I've only found one dealership in about 10 years that has never let me down. I thought I'd hold out for confirmation before I stick a part for a 1.9tdi on an RS6 and let it fail on me.
