not doubting your account at all.

The insurers have a combined database, which the police have access to, basically, if you have a reg plate, they can tell who is insured to drive that vehicle, what the policy number is and the dates it is valid from. As far as I am aware the insurance companies are very pro active about updating their systems and that system is available 24hrs / 365 days per year. Difficulty is when someone "borrows a car with the owners consent(who have their own insurance for "any vehicle"), has a bump and then fails to pass on to the info to the owner

- stangely this seems to happen quite alot with vehicles used in the travelling fraternity.

Can only second what has been said about cameras in the car for "incidents" a picture tells a thousand words - camera phones are ok, but the quality is questionable, spend £30 on a cheap 35mm compact and leave it in the car, when you need it, you'll think it invaluable.

Oh, any RTA is reportable to the police - injury or damage only, if you suspect the other party to be under the influence of alcohol or intoxicants, we will get there all the quicker

Oh, one other thing, some of "us" do have lives on the outside and i'm one of them :P
Excellent, inside info from a police dude - welcome

Hi Ronin,

First thing we did was to ring the police to report the accident and check is the car was stolen/insured so that we knew that we'd been given proper details only to be told that they wouldnt ("couldnt") tell us because of.......you guessed it........the Data Protection Act!! No-one took any details and that was that. The legal dept of the company now chasing the case for us has had to do a DVLA search on the reg number to see who actually owns the car and to see if that person rather than the driver i insured so at least they can pursue that persons insurer instead.

By the way all, guess how much the repairing garage are quoting to replace and paint the rear bumper, brackets, seals etc exhaust system cat back and repair the boot floor? Post some guesses and then I'll let you know the answer!

If it's an audi dealer doing the work my guess would be about £500,000. Am I close?

The quote is £4,400 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus Accident exchange are trying to supply ythe courtesy car (an A6 2.7TDI Quatrro) which is another £240 per DAY!!!

Where on earth do these people get these prices from? Its no wonder our insurance premiums go up every year when bodyshops and car hire firms are charging these sorts of prices!

p.s the prize is a slightly used RS6 back bumper-one careful owner ec.

p.s.s i believe that the system is 1 pice cat back fo mthe factory so I will be fighting for a whole new exhaust from the insurance so anyone want my old one for free? One tailbox is bent but the lhd side box is fine and the centre box is bob on?

I have read elsewhere that digital photos are inadmissible in court, either phone or digicam. Presumably something to do with them being editable. So always have a disposable camera in the glove box.
