Hi Andy,
You know what wives are like at times ;)

I'm still very interested but due to my last costing me £4.5k due to two problems (Big end, then melted piston 1000 miles later) Clare is very nervous on buying, whats she describes as a modded car.

Clare wants a car that she feels is going to run and run, not break down every five minutes. At the end of the day, with her and my son in it most of the time it's GOT to be reliable, Clare's just nervous on modded cars.

Yours has all the right spec, but it could be hard to talk her round. (maybe if you dropped it £3500 she would tell me to get on the train tomorrow ;) <wink.... tongue in cheek ;) )

We used to have our own cars, but i sold my Subaru last summer due to me not using it and since then i use my work vans to get around, unless we go out as a family and we'll use the BMW (cough.....X5.. ). Great motor but we both want to get back into faster cars.

I am very lucky in a way, a lot of the opposite sex aren't into cars so the poor old husband sometimes gets second best. When we met i had a bike, she then got one because she loved the speed. only lasted till the end of summer because it got tooooooo cold! ! !

Any way, enough of the life story, I'll keep working one her........

I'll speak to you soon.

PS. I hope you participated in my poll

Hence why I'd like the Daytona Grey......do like that shade of grey/silver

And yes, i let her take it down the strip at Santa Pod (13.6 sec 1/4 mile)

36 here

a mild remap to 500 ish and derestriction isnt detectable by a dealer anyway so I wouldnt worry about the warranty thing.....to be honest, Ive done a bit of research and never read baout one having major engine probs yet ...its mostly niggles, the odd leak, electrical and suspension stuff.....so i wouldnt worry about it - I dont ;)
cheers

A couple of gearbox horror stories aside, the RS6 seems to be an extremely well engineered car, and I don't think I've even heard of a modded car which has put a warranty claim for a new engine or rebuild to the test. So for relatively new cars still under Audi warranty I can see why modding and warranties isn't much of an issue: in the interests of keeping customers of big-ticket items happy and loyal, dealers turn a blind eye, and there simply isn't the volume of large claims to concern Audi UK.

But as the cars get older they'll (a) be more prone to failure and (b) the warranties will by and large be simple insurance policies offered by 3rd party companies. Now insurance companies aren't stupid - their job is to understand and underwrite risks - and a reasonable percentage of RS6's are probably modified. So faced with a claim for a new engine, gearbox or turbos I would fully expect them to do their homework and attempt to reject the claim if the car was modded. And it's all very well to claim that mods aren't detectable, but that could potentially end up as a charge for insurance fraud (albeit unlikely, but it's happened in similar areas).

The only gearbox failure I've heard about was W8PMC, modded to something like 535+.
Anymore?

I thought the gearbox mod was a physical chip? (therefore more easy to detect)
