i wanted an RS6 sooner rather than latter as (the 2 dealers i saw were quoting 4th quarter of 04 for delivery!)
Wow, if this is true, the production must have been severely cut back. Also, there was the suggestion that all RS6 production was being halted at 31 December 2003 (which I didn't believe)!

During my recent dealings I was told by no less than three dealers that if I ordered a new, specced to my requirements (including custom paint because I was considering Nogaro Blue ), RS6 Avant, I could expect delivery (to me) by the first week of April at the very latest, two of them confirmed this after enquiring directly to the factory.

"Lowered Sports Suspension" is listed as an option on the website when using the configurator, under "Safety/Technology" and is a £480 option.
I'd be very interested to know if this is similar to the QGMBH suspension setup for the RS4, or if it in fact is how the car comes from the factory.
I think you are right Peter, it is further lowered and stiffened, however as usual the dealers know feck all about it

Peter thanks for the info on the Phatbox, is it a straightforward install?
I want to keep the CD changer by the way.

Ah, well you might have a problem. The Audi HUs (apart from the one with the integral CD changer) can only control one changer. The PhatBox emulates the standard changer, and plugs in in its place. You can't have both CD changer and PhatBox, I'm afraid. FWIW, I don't miss the CD option - I never used original discs in the car anyway - I always made a copy for in-car use, so it's just as easy to copy onto the PhatBox DMS as it is to duplicate the CD.

Installation isn't too difficult. The 'official' mounting position is on the boot side panel, exposed to the contents of the boot. I opted to mount it on the shelf where the CD changer had been, but to achieve this I had to take a hacksaw to the back panel of the shelf.

My personal colour choice is as Martian has it, Mugello Blue with the leather in whatever that colour is, not the mushroom one, the Ferrari-esque "Magnolia" colour.

Hey... good taste!!
The leather is 'Silver'- if you really like it then don't be put off by the prospect of it getting dirty- Ive got two teenage daughters and often have to carry them, their friends and the dog around. Most marks come off easily with a damp cloth- failing that a bit of AutoGlym leather cleaner followed by conditioner brings them back to new. No hassle really.
I've got Lt Grey Alcantara headlining and that's pretty cool too. The best Mugello pic I've seen was posted on the new S4 4.2 board but I can't remember who's post it was - it really showed the colour at it's best.

Your dealer should get the right one if you give them the option code - the lowered sport suspension is code 2ME and the standard sport suspension is 2MC (see picture below, top right of options codes). "Plexus" on rs6.com has one of each, I think he likes the 2ME for it's handling, but I can't imagine the roads where I live would be good enough for it - 2MC is jiggly enough in town as it is. Image

I was originally told end of march or early april for a RS6 when i first asked(this was at the beginning of nov) but as i was impatient and couldnt wait that long i went and bought a merc C32AMG (i knew a dealer that had a canncelled order in stock) bad choice!!! slippery little devil in the wet.
Anyway when i went back to the dealer to order an RS6 (first week of jan 04)and spec it they checked the delivery date for me and came back with oct04 possibly slightly earlier.
Getting away from the RS6 for a moment they also said that the S4 avant in manual would be third quater but a tip version would only be a couple of months ie march/april?why i wonder are they not made on the same production line/factory.

And so my hunt began to see if i could find a RS6 any where else quicker ! and sure enough next phone call to an audi dealer proved succesfull it should be here tomorrow (21/01/04)
But going back to the orignal point of the string if you order a RS6 in one of audis exclusive colours you should have to wait quite a while thus enabiling you to smoke around in the loan RS6 for no cost (besides petrol) that cant be bad !

I haven't seen or heard a car fitted with this option, but I understand that the audible effect is quite subtle and the effect on performance is negligable. If you really want a performance exhaust, I would suggest accepting the standard fitment and then consider one of the after-market offerings such as Miltek.

I don't think so! Again, my suggestion would be to save the £600 for the Audi cross-drilled discs - accept the standard fitment and then buy the after-market upgrade.

My mother-in-law needs a new car. I wonder if we could order that with the no brakes option?

peterb, you´re right about the brakes. don´t go for the drilled discs etc. they don´t bring that extra for the money. You can better save that money for a set of suberb aftermarket brakes
(that´s why I asked and wonder if you can´t get order a car without brakes.....maybe it saves some money..-----I know it sounds stoopid....but why not..if you want to change them directly to those big fat movit brakes or so...)
the sports exhaust is just a faavorite of mine. it brings such a nice sound.....like a group of harley davidson bikes that drives by....But it´s too $$ for that reason...
I know that the milltek exhausts are also very nice

any way good luck with the ordering of the car....try to get some bonus winter tires... those are more useful than a extra set of floormats

...oh yes and take out the Tyre Insurance combined with the Gap Insurance- excellent value (not sure if it was an Audi thing or an Inchcape thing though).
