Re: Why are RS6s like barges
We would only be able to accurately judge whether 50 cars constitutes a glut if we knew what proportion of "standard" production cars were available 2nd hand from Audi 1 year after launch.
Personally, I find it very unusual that there are so many of these cars available when they were £53k plus new. I mean, you might expect it from a 1.9Tdi A6 at £25k, but I would have thought that something costing that much would be a little scarcer.
You can't argue that it was under-marketed, so maybe it's a case of over-supply. Or maybe it is simply that the only people who can afford these cars are business folks and when they realise how much they cost to run, they sell on quickly??
Barge or not, I'd have one (at the right price )

Re: Why are RS6s like barges
Anybody want to guess a depreciation curve for the RS6, so I can work out when/if I can afford one. How does it go now:
New: £57,700
Up to 1 year old: £50,000+
2 year old: £40,000+
3 year old: £30,000+
4 year old: £22,000+
5 year old: £15,000+
Or am I being over-simplistic here. I guess the above has the car depreciating rather like an S6 (i.e. 50% drop in value after 3 years), when its exclusivity should ensure values hold relatively better. Or maybe the "barge factor" will give it a steeper depreciation curve?

Re: Why are RS6s like barges
The limited edition RS2 had retained 60% at the end of 3 years. 30K is more likely for the RS6, rather than mid 30's. The RS6 is not that exclusive and it will cost a fortune to maintain as it gets older. The mediocre handling will have it fare badly against the likes of the Cayenne's & such
Re: Why are RS6s like barges
I think they are (will be) depreciating quicker than that, especially high-milers like mine. There's quite a few used ones kicking about already, check Audi UK's used section of the website.
High running costs and extremely expensive maintenance once out of warranty (just about anything apart from putting petrol in requires removal of the engine) will put a lot of people off I suspect, so prices will drop further.
Ah well, I didn't have plans to retire on the fortune I'd be selling the RS 6 for anyway, so what do I care.
Pradip, perhaps there's a fault with your RS 6 (or the one you drove at any rate), as the handling shouldn't be "mediocre". I'd get yours looked at by a dealer.

Re: Why are RS6s like barges
Agree Chris. There was nothing mediocre about the handling of the RS6's at Hockenheim last year. There was a LOT of tyre noise when they were cornering in the dry, but the 6's looked composed AND fast when compared to anything else that ran there that day, including the track prepped M3's Renault Turbo2 (awesome BTW) and various Opels etc.
Be good to see more of them there this year.
