Ok, doesn't look as though this job is going to be costed at one standard RS unit mercifully. Thanks for all the advice, I'll report back hopefully when cured.

What is the difference between ABS modules with only the two letters at the end being different? Mine is 4B 614 517 AD, I can get 4B 614 517 G.

With VAG, different suffixes could mean that it's been superseded and it's compatible, or it could mean that it's a completely different part. There's no way of generalising.

In this case I suspect it's a software thing. I am willing to bet that all those Bosch 5.7 ABS modules are identical other than the software. If you could find a way of programming one then you could get a cheapish brand new one from somewhere like Autodoc. I did this recently for a 5 series. It looked identical in every way to the one in the RS6.

Maybe find the Bosch number and check cross references.

Thanks Shop,
It's only $200 so I am thinking it's not to bad even if I use it for the parts and trial and error. It looks identical. Even the pressure switch is the same. Compared to $1000+ for a second hand RS6 one in unknown condition its worth a go I think.
Car is running really good. Got to drives in before the ABS light came back on. So I think all the cam job has gone ok.
I found VCDS works much better with K on engine box checked. Scans faster as well.

What cable are you using?

Is that for a new one? If so then it's an absolute bargain.

HEX CAN USB?

Problem with second hand modules is that sometimes they can't be reprogrammed to a different car. The one I bought was brand new so I was able to do the adaptation to the ECU etc with no problems, but I remember reading that you could only do it once. I never actually tried with a used one, so I can't say for sure. Still for that money you are not taking a big risk.

Maybe you could desolder the chip from yours to put on that one, but having seen how intricate that stuff is, I wouldn't want to attemp it. Having said that, with your experience, maybe it'll be a piece of cake. Last time I tried to do that intricate stuff it was on my iPhone and now it's dead. :)

Sorry just doubled checked it's HEX-2 duel- K & can USB.

If the soldering is to small for me I give it to the soldering team at work. They solder things that an old bugger like me can't even see.
