Hi Madi

Does the company you refer to have a web-site or any customer testimonies?? It would be good to get a feel of who they are beofre i ship the car down?
How long will they have the car for? Can they also do any after market stuff - remap etc? :blackrs4:

Thanks

Far too many things to get damaged , after having lots of engines out i still can't see a way that it can be done without causing problems .

If i was going for the piece of mind route i would say give it to Grizz or anyone else that all the Guys and Gals on here recommend. However saying that if you can save 1k and still have the work done to a very high standard i would say go for it.

I just do not understand how people say the engine needs to be removed, yet i have seen my car with the Gearbox removed and the engine is still there.

hope this helps

Thanks

As AmD didn't come back to us with info regarding their bombproof box I can't recommend them sadly and would be doing a lot more research before sending mine there for uprating. For gearbox work (in no order), I would only trust MRC or Unit 20, they have done loads of them and know their stuff, simple as. Grizz's offers currently sound great and I would be grabbing the phone asap and calling him if it was me.

Our S3 will be going up to MRC soon for a map tweak, checking out why the engine is so flaming noisy and so sort out its awful, awful cold (temperature) starting problems. Regarding mapping, both the RS6 and the Cupra are bulletproof in the engine department on their tunes.
Current:

23' C8 RS6 Vorsprung - 23' RS E-Tron GT Carbon Vorsprung

Gone:

"Brutus"- C5 RS6 Avant - MRC stage 2 - Milltek non-res + 100 cell cats - Wagner ICs - PSS9 - H&R ARBs - OZ Superturismo LM - C6 Custom brakes - HD RNS-E - Various other bits - 555PS/832Nm
"Taz"- C7 RS6 - MRC stage 2 745PS/1095Nm
12' Cayenne Turbo, B7 RS4, S3, Cupra R, XJR, EVO VII, STI8,5,2&WRX, 106 GTI&XSI, other crap.

Errrrm, so because you've seen your car with its gearbox removed and the engine in situ means that's the best way to do it? I've seen a guy in a movie get his heart ripped out of his chest before it burst into flames while it was still beating, that doesn't mean it's the best technique for open heart surgery...

I've got tubular manifolds so I'd probably always have to get the whole kit out. *fnar*

I have removed bigger and heavier gearboxes out of tighter spacers than an rs6!

Was that an offer to do the OP's box? I think so...

Not sure what Lucas is doing, MRC suspected the TC is on the way out, it had the same thing Daveperc had where it wasn't locking, on the dyno and under load. Chances are the problem was there when I had the car, but it drove spot on hence he drove it hard and paid particular attention to the box, vag comm'd it and bought it on account of the smoothness of it all. Plus, Lucas is ex MRC and walked away from lots of C5's before buying mine, so knows what to look out for. Be afraid C5 lot, be very afraid.

Just another note on this. I understand why the gearbox isn't removed on its own, of anything breaks whilst removing it who pays? Garage won't pay cause they recommend both coming out but you wn't won't to pay cause it wasn't broken before. The company has to cover its anooos.

Hi All

Are we saying we cannot remove the gearbox without the engine being taken out first without a large risk to other components??
Thanks

I'm a firm believer in trying to keep the cost down on any job .

I've removed dozens of rs6 engines/boxes .

There are far too many things that can be damaged , stretched , crushed .

Most of the oil feed pipes or water pipes run under other components that if damaged will leak and end up resulting in the engine coming out .

We use a large hydraulic platform to remove the power pack . Once out we can inspect many other items and replace with ease so saving the customer money long term .
