Drivers Wing Mirror Glass - Part No query

Post by cover99 » Fri Oct 03, 2025 10:07 pm

Evening all, I have noticed my drivers side antidazzle wing mirror glass with backing plate looks to have started to discolour (Looks slightly gold)
The passenger one i think looks clear, although could argue it has a very very light blue tint. Anyway I was looking at AT and they have several options FOR GENUINE NEW PRODUCED PART: MIRROR GLASS (ASPHERICAL-WIDE ANGLE) WITH PLATE* AUTOMATIC ANTI-DAZZLE. I assume the one fitted is aspherical as is has a dashed vertical line towards the outer edge.

The Part numbers i can see on AT are
8D0857536G
8D0857536BE
8D0857536H
8D0857536BF

Apart from the price being frightening :audibash: Would someone be able to confirm the differences the for each part no above and if you have any idea what i should be looking for if deciding to order one.

Thanks once again Steven

Hello

If my memory serves me correctly I made a build-sheet for your car? So I should have your VIN. I’ll login to ETKA and see which part numbers your car came fitted with from factory

There are so many different mirror types depending where in the world you live

If you need help ordering this part from Tradition, I have an account and can forward to UK etc.

Hi Craig,
Had a look at the build sheet (Good shout) - Right exterior mirror 6TS Right exterior mirror, aspherical, large viewing field. Unsure if the 6TS was an old number that goes after 8D0857536. Unable to find a reference to it anywhere with the 6TS extension.

Hi Steven

5SJ and 6TS are the option codes for your mirror glass when your car was being built. Very useful if your VIN is not available, as you can find from ETKA what part numbers make that option code. However as I have your VIN (from the build-sheet I previously created) I can find your mirror part numbers easier this way.

LEFT MIRROR GLASS = 8D0857535AL Mirror glass (convex) with carrier plate * automatic anti-dazzle.
RIGHT MIRROR GLASS = 8D0857536BF Mirror glass (aspherical- wide angle) with plate * automatic anti-dazzle

Both of those mirror glasses are in stock at Audi Tradition, but as you already know, they are expensive. I needed 2 new mirror glass a few years ago and could not justify the price. But I do hope one day that I can bring my car back to its intended spec.
I did reach out to a few companies that specialise in out dimming glass, such as Mirror John. But nobody was able to handle both the dimming and heating aspect. Combine that with a mirror that's open to the elements and I was on a lost cause. I believe the originals were made in USA and it's funny that US spec cars were fitted with this mirror glass as standard. Unfortunately, USA mirror glass is different from what we use in Europe, in fact a few years ago it was a common upgrade for US drivers to upgrade from flat glass to convex and aspherical mirrors glass. So cheap eBay glass from US is a bad idea...

I am making an order with Audi Tradition at the moment and will finalise it next week. If you want this glass then let me know. Easiest way to contact me is on FB messenger, but I do read this forum, when it's working ;-)

Hey Steven

Just to satisfy your curiosity (and mine) here is the list of all 14 right mirrors glasses that were fitted to the C5 RS6. This does not include mirror glasses that were available in different colours, sizes and specifications for other C5 A6 models. That really would be a rabbit hole I do not wish to travel :bigblink:

8D0857536AC - Mirror glass (flat)
8D0857536AS - Mirror glass (flat)
8D0857536AD - Mirror glass (convex)
8D0857536AT - Mirror glass (convex)
8D0857536AE - Mirror glass (aspherical-wide angle)
8D0857536BA - Mirror glass (aspherical-wide angle)
8D0857536F - Mirror glass (flat) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536BD - Mirror glass (flat) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536G - Mirror glass (convex) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536BE - Mirror glass (convex) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536H - Mirror glass (aspherical-wide angle) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536BF - Mirror glass (aspherical-wide angle) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536AF - Mirror glass (convex) (Arabic writing) 175x100mm
8D0857536BB - Mirror glass (convex) (Arabic writing) 175x100mm

It's the same situation with the left-hand mirror glass, many variants for C5 RS6.

Have a nice weekend :audibash:

If you can live without the automatic dimming then the regular glass mirrors are much cheaper and look OK to the untrained eye.

I stumped up for a genuine Audi one from AT when my time came recently. Because in for a penny in for a thousand pounds.

These mirrors are the same part numbers as are fitted to the D2 S8's. I've tried to maintain mine that were fitted in the factory (in 2002) but am at the point of giving up.
The basic problem I think is that none of these have been made in a very long time and I THINK the chemicals in them just degrade over time even if unused and new.
I've replaced both more than once over the last few years and each has lasted less time than the one it replaced, and costs even more.
Currently I have one mirror (left) that is still okay but the right one is turning gold and failing.
The most recent purchase, a while back now, was for a left one 8D0857535G, from a trusted contact in Germany.

I have a pair of non-dimming convex mirrors as "backup" and expect to revert to these fairly soon.

Yeah, that makes sense. Next time I'll put the non dimming ones on. I don't drive the RS6 at night anyway.

This made me laugh far more than it should as the truth of ownership slowly sank in :kissmyrings:

Hi HPSauce

Yes this mirror glass was used on the D2 A8/S8 and also C5 A6/S6, some B5 A4/S4 and some A3/S3 - quite a common mirror glass.

I thought the same about the LCD fluid leaking from the mirrors with old manufacturing dates - however the 3 mirrors below (from my list above) are genuine new reproductions.
8D0857535G has been superseded by 8D0857535BE - but both still available at similar price.

8D0857536G - Mirror glass (convex) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536BE - Mirror glass (convex) * automatic anti-dazzle
8D0857536BF - Mirror glass (aspherical-wide angle) * automatic anti-dazzle

Thanks TOPMAN (Craig) I did wonder what on Earth the multiple apparently identical entries were about!

So I think I now need a 8D0857536BE to replace my drivers side mirror, but at €350 plus shipping and whatever import taxes Brexit has added I'm probably not going to bother....
