Rear brake discs

Post by Varks » Tue Feb 18, 2025 12:59 pm

Not sure if anyone is in need of new rear discs but if you are interested MTEC have a discount on at the moment, i have used MTEC brakes for all my cars in the passed and found them to be excellent,
you can get a pair of VW Pheaton rear drilled and grooved discs for £98.99.00 including 2 day delivery, i believe you just need to space the caliper out slightly by adding a washer but saves you hundreds on OEM rear discs,
I just need to find a cheaper option for the fronts now!
I questioned the price as usually they are listed as 1 disc, they have assured me it is for a pair, link :https://www.mtecbrakes.com/mtec6207.html
hopefully that helps someone out.
If anyone has a cheaper option for the fronts please let me know.
Edit: i originally ordered the fronts by mistake, quick online chat and the correct size are on their way, :beerchug:
Renault 4 GT Turbo, Series 2 RS Turbo, 90 sport 2.3 20v 5 pot, Subaru Legacy GTB, several A4 S-Line 170's 3.0 tdi Le Mans, 2 x B5 S4, 2003 C5 RS6 in Daytona- 8 pots, 4 Rings!!! :blackrs4:

Is it true R8 front rotors are fully compatible with our cars? If so, probably that wouldn't be a cheaper solution but at least would open up a new source path.

Nice find. Cheers.
Just had a look and they've gone up to £109.99 in the last 10 days. Still gonna get some mind.

Hold on kids. Don't buy these just yet. I'm in the middle of trying to fit some.
The pcd seems ok, as does the hub centre diameter.
Just trying to work out why these won't go on far enough and mate with the the bolt flange.
I can see that the offset (from rear of disc flange face to edge of disc)is 35mm new vs 40mm original.
Just taking caliper carrier off to be able to get it square on.

Goes on ok without carrier on.
Just going to spacer it out now.

Should have been obvious that it wouldn't go on with carrier on.
Needs spacing. Duh.

Great value at that price. Might have to get some.
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

Is that fitting as standard or with a spacer behind it?

Actually two washers. About 5mm.
I guess no-one zoomed in an saw my half arsed galve paint. Lol.
I think they'll rust up quite quick.
Quick one. I'm trying to fit some front Kinetix discs (33.9mm) and Stark pads, (17.5mm) but can't get both side pads in.
It's one side or the other.
I bought 2 sets of these pads years ago and the first set went in fine with the old discs. Now at 32.9mm.
Not sure if the pistons are menat to retract flush.
They all protrute from the caliper equally.
Obviously the pad thickness is all I'm left with unless someone's got a "did you try this dumbass?"
I took some fluid from the reservoir, as it was at the neck.
Possibly because of the thread about potential low fluid causing the light to come on during cornering.
Can anyone help?
Cheers, Phil.

Might have answered my own question.
The pads are too thick.
There are a variety of thicknesses out there.
