If it's just a cap going bad then that's an easy fix.
Does raise the question (again) of what happens when impossible to replicate parts fail and go extinct.You wouldn't have this problem with, say, a 60's Mustang. You can keep one of those going with a milling machine and some rudimentary tools.

When the imminent zombie apocalypse comes, it'll be those with old school diesel engines who will be kings of the road. Running their oil-burners on rendered zombie fat. I suspect my tractor would run on anything that's vaguely oily.

I saw that as well. I had a gearbox moment earlier in the year. Half wondering whether at service time the TCU should be taken off and checked for anything like that. Is there anyone that can just change all the caps in an existing TCU so it would hopefully ok for another 15-20 years?

Electrolytic caps are very easy to replace on a PCB. Anyone competent with a soldering station could do it for you.

Oh yes, the good old compression ignition engine. They'll run on anything, including Brylcreem. "A little dab will do ya" (I'm old enough)
