So, the reason it feels tight and is advancing the intake cam is because it thinks its tensioning 16links, not 15. But fitment wise it fits, but would never run in spec with this setup....why someone would do this I do not know. Thankfully it was Bank 2!!!!

Can the tensioner be changed without resetting the timing as I feel this is not the problem now? Will also check the forum.

Will try and source the correct tensioner making sure its O.E and part 077 109 087 P.

Cheers again, I'll update accordingly when complete.

Stay safe....

Sorry, no. Both cams have to come out to do the tensioner on a bank. It’s not that hard, although pulling both cams out and not dropping anything from the assembly is a bit of a sphincter quiverer.

If OE not available, I used a Vaico tensioner on mine and I am happy with it. I’ll find the thread with details.

You should check that the bank 1 dephaser is the correct one, too. Wouldn't surprise me if both were replaced at the same time and inverted. Thinking about it, it's a near certainty given your timing error on that bank, too.

Might be worth checking Rockauto for them. Sometimes they are much cheaper than Autodoc even when you add in the shipping and duty. I bought an AC compressor for my Volvo from there for £284 delivered. Autodoc price today £354. And a Bosch Alternator for £294, Autodoc price £735 .

Rockauto list the Vaico adjusters, but only have the LHS in stock. Looks like all in price would be £340ish

However, they also have another brand listed that's a lot less:

But IMVHO you'd want to find someone that's used one to validate the quality, first, unless you fancy being the guinea pig.

Many thanks chaps, really helpful info and links!

Fyi, the adjuster for Bank 1 is the correct one with part number 077 109 088. I have no idea why someone would even use the wrong adjuster for Bank 2, but clearly this is why their error light came on and why I picked up the car for a good price.

I plan to order a new adjuster this week (077 109 087 P), not sure about the quality of the Ultra or other inferior brands other than Vaico, buy cheap buy twice and I really don't want to cut corners as this part plays a major role and don't really fancy the carnage it would cause if it fails!

Do you think there would be anyone on the forum selling an adjuster for Bank 2!!??

Keep you guys posted and thanks again for your help.
