Re: Learning to Tig weld
I made a shadow board at a place I used to work as it drove me mad looking for stuff. Some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to paint the whole thing black so they couldn't see when something was missing. Too lazy to put stuff away.steve2003rs6 wrote:Yes Matt. At work we always had shadow boards so that when a tool was not replaced it really stood out.
This was checked at the end of the day just before we all went home.
If one was missing we had to stay behind and find it.
I don't work there anymore and one of the reasons I work for myself on my own!

The welds are looking good Matt , though I would say that too much gas flow is arguably as bad as not enough when it comes to making them shiney . You’ve gotta make sure yo don’t run past your gas coverage before the weld cools down so don’t be afraid to stop mid weld and keep the post gas running a little longer . As long as the weld and tungsten aren’t glowing red your golden. I run my gas a lot lower when I welding steels than Ali . With a good lens you can run as low as 4/5 cfm . Also just be careful if your using the same bottle to purge and feed your torch as it will fluctuate on you . Give me a shout if I can help at all though buddy
. Torch time is key
Cheers Al

Re: Learning to Tig weld
I bought 2 bottles to keep purge and shield separate.
And yeah, have increased post flow, that helped too
Did some more practice yesterday. Happy I can do a good weld now and again now, but need to practice for consistency.
