I have found a 2014 map for sale for £20.
There's a guy I know who is occasionally on the A8parts forum, possibly here too, who used to produce the Mercedes version (with TMC) for about that figure.
I know he spent ages working out which media and burn process was the most reliable, though I'm not sure he's doing it any more. I can ask if you don't get anywhere.

Yeah, I spent many hours burning dozens of CDs for the RNS-D. Tried different brands, burn speeds, burners. I got there in the end, but what a faff.

A few years later I bought a more recent CD from a site selling them. It looked like a genuine production CD but didn’t work in my unit. Gave it to a friend and it worked in his S6. Go figure.

There was also the GPS week rollover bug which was April 2019 so uncorrected systems may not work after that date. Quite a few modern cars had to be updated with newer firmware so they still were ok.

Just noticed it's already mentioned...

If you have a head unit that can have custom themes would it be possible to have a theme that looked old fashioned enough? Having old style buttons skinned over the new unit might also be possible maybe?
