Thanks. That would be useful.

Viper. Anything can be made.
Would need to know the material.
And cost of new in comparison to manufacturing cost to see if there is any benefit.
Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy off the shelf.
Also. Machine Shop can be very fussy making parts for anything to do with a braking system.
I recall a motor bike enthusiast calling round to have his bike discs skimmed.
Although we have done hundreds for cars.
The manager refused to do them for bikes.

Re: Caliper Refurb
They are barely magnetic and not that heavy, so I suspect stainless steel, the main body I believe is hollow (from the weight) and the top cap pressed on. The overall look is grey, I'd guess a ceramic coating of sorts (they dont look or feel like phenolic pistons from a motorbike caliper. I must say, my calipers were seized, I used an enerpak hand pump to get the pistons out and they cleaned up pretty well, certainly good enough to re-use IMHO. The regular chrome plated steel pistons in my Honda calipers look god awful in comparison despite being a similar age. The bleed nipples on these calipers were corroded in solid, I ended up drilling and helicoiling the caliper bodies, no amount of heat or abuse would shift them (tig welded nuts over them in the end and the nips sheared off at the calipers surface).

Re: Caliper Refurb
My spare original calipers are in the garage at the moment. The bleed nipple threads in the caliper are knackered. Intend to have them repaired sometime in the near future.
Thought of helicoiling but unit 20 suggested another repair superior to helicoil.
In the meantime I had new phaeton 8 pot calipers installed at unit 20. Grizz recommended them.
Very impressed with them so repairing the originals has been put on hold at the moment.

The pistons will be available it's just which ones. Mine is booked in for next week so I'm going to try and make sure I find out exactly which ones are ordered.

Hope all goes well for you suz.
And the price isn’t extortionate.

Re: Caliper Refurb
The after market ones seem to be about £10 a pop. They may be fine in which case I'll be no help at all

Re: Caliper Refurb
The only corrosion on any of mine was minor and above where the dust seal sits (you can see it on the picture I posted of the smaller piston). This corrosion was slight and cleaned off very easy with a little fine scotch disc in a dremel. I'd be surprised if you really need new pistons.

Re: Caliper Refurb
Didn't need new pistons, oddly enough.
Piston part numbers will have to remain a mystery!

Re: Caliper Refurb
On the aesthetics side, has anyone found a decent OEM substitute for the logo on the calipers? (I'm assuming you can't get them from the dealers anymore, if you ever could).
Re: Caliper Refurb
Ive been searching and found this crew:
https://www.brakecaliperdecals.co.uk/Au ... ake-Decals
Option 5 would be close to standard, not sure if the black of the decal would match the black of the caliper, and if these could effectively cover the faded factory ones.
Worth a look as they're cheap enough.
I don't feel up $$helling out for a stenciled logo to be painted on.
Re: Caliper Refurb
Thank you. Yeah, seen those before and think you're right - they're probably the best out there, currently.Lander91 wrote:Ive been searching and found this crew:

As you say, for the price they'd be worth a punt
