Passenger Airbag Question??

Post by W8PMC » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:40 am

I've just been asked by the new owner of my RS6, where exactly the passenger airbag disable/enable switch/lock is?? It's a November 2003 RS6 Saloon

As i sold the car, i no longer have the manual, hence the question on here.

Cheers in advance

Perhaps, but maybe he's away from a computer & does not have as much time to spend on Forums as we do.

This may sound daft, but where exactly in the glovebox is it located & do all RS6 Saloons have this feature?? Top left, top right, bottom left etc. etc. Reason being i had a DVD player installed in the glovebox & this is perhaps hiding the Passenger Airbag Dissable/enable lock

Cheers for the answer Damon, but can you expand as per my question above.

I'd be interested to know as well, as I've looked for a key in the glovebox and couldn't find one, and when I spoke to Audi CS they said it could only be disabled by the dealer.

Gary.

That's what i thought. I can't ever recall seeing a disable/enable lock in the glovebox, but as i then had the DVD player installed & i was asked by the new owner, i guessed it was perhaps behind or above the DVD player.

Maybe it's only Avants that have this??

Ok, I take it back.

Went out and had look....no key point! So why is it in the manual?

It was a feature on my allroad in the top RHS front of the glove box. When it didn't appear on my plus, I asked about it and it was no longer standard. Dealers will deactivate if you sign a disclaimer, but it's hardly a convenient temporary solution if you want to put a baby seat in occasionally.

Passenger Airbag deactivation CAN NOT be retrofitted to the RS6, however you can have the airbag de-activated by the use of a small kit available from the dealers, it takes approx 1hr and has stickers to place in the car to notify of it being de-activated and also a certificate that has to be completed and sent to Audi - it is then registered on DIALOG so that if the vehicle is sold the new owner can choose to have re-activated.

Don't know why we are not allowed to retro fit the switch on the RS6 -- we were issued with a bulletin specifically forbidding it - and no instructions exit on Elsa to allow us to do it -- the only other model that this is the case for was the A2 -- and I certainly can't see any link ??

He's on here...here I am.

No key in glovebox, RS4 has it so I had looked already.

As stated, hardly a good solution having to use a dealer if only for temporary disabling (occasional child seat)

Anybody know if aftermarket diagnosis tools (OBD2 stuff) can access airbag functions?
