Re: Christine is back
Looks like a brake booster valve. Genuine Parts difficult to get hold of (metal gasket).
Looks like another trip.

Re: Christine is back
If genuine parts are tricky to find then it sounds like the perfect job for a short manufacturing run with an appropriate supplier. Most of the cars are similar ages so all the same stuff tends to fail on them.

Re: Christine is back
Following today’s visit to unit 20.
Back at unit 20 on 25 th this month for two days.
Today’s summary.
Full service inc plugs
Brake fluid changed
Front and rear diffs oil changed
Xfer box oil changed
To do on 25 and 26 of this month.
Both Cam cover gaskets - oil leak
Brake booster valve - cause of my brake problem
New front phaeton calipers - brake bleed nipple threads knackered on calipers.
New front discs and pads I bought last month to install
Another gearbox oil and filter change.
As usual grizz and the team were brilliant and provided me with a used front caliper to get me home until the new ones arrive.
Oh and I collected another stone chip in my new windscreen. Now have 3 chips.
I must be a pebble and stone magnet.
Fallen off the back of a lorry has new meaning to me.

Re: Christine is back
All the work listed has been done at unit 20. This was a birthday present to myself.
No more oil leak. So my wife is really happy.
Drive back was amazing. Hopefully no more work to be done for the remainder of this year.
Besides sorting a new radiator.
I have kept the original front calipers as I intend to have them overhauled/repaired
Then should have a spare set for future use.

Re: Christine is back
Bummer. Moved the car this morning. Two oil leaks.
One is near side just inboard of the front wheel
The second is around offside of centre of the rear axle.
Need to sort this sooner rather than later.
Bit of a pain as the car is driving beautifully.

Re: Christine is back
Hi Ben. Tell me about it.
Hopefully get it on a ramp and have a good look round.
After all the work I have just had done it could be anywhere.
Positioned cardboard where I think it is to hopefully give me a starting point.
Getting earache from my misses.
Sent grizz a message to see if he has any ideas.

Re: Christine is back
Just something else to sort out.
I like the phaeton front calipers with the new discs and pads and new brake booster valve.
The brakes are very responsive.

Re: Christine is back
Doesn’t seem to leak with car parked stationary.
Appears to be only when the engine is running.

Re: Christine is back
For the nearside front one, check the power steering lines - they run along there from the pump.steve2003rs6 wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 6:44 pmBummer. Moved the car this morning. Two oil leaks.

Offside centre is going to be something in the filter area (its just above the ARB). For me I just needed to nip the oil pressure sensor up and there's a banjo bolt up there with a couple of crush washers.
Is your under engine tray on?

Re: Christine is back
Hi Simon. Thanks for the reply.
Yes engine under-tray is on.
Will check your recommendations out when I can get on a ramp.
I am hoping it is nothing too complicated.
As I have just spent loads on the car (again)

Re: Christine is back
Sorry to hear about your problems Steve.... I'd second Simon's diagnosis : the filter area is a b**** and o-rings there tend to fail more often than not (been through this recently with the same symptoms).
You want to change parts 12 and 15A. Hasn't it been done when you had your bufkin pipe replaced?

Re: Christine is back
Hi classic. Many thanks
Haven’t had the bufkin pipe replaced yet.
Checked the cardboard this morning not a drop.
So started the car and left running and not a drop.
Going to move the car next and see what happens
Pity our oils are not different colours
At least you could narrow it down
When I get it up on the ramp. Going to try steering wheel from lock to lock a few times.
Really annoying
