Air suspension?

Post by Promech » Sun May 24, 2020 3:52 pm

Just wondered if anyone had tried replacing the deck with air suspension and if it was any good or not?

My first had an airlift setup on it. the new one has Billy b16s on it. If I could be arsed to swap them over I would. It was really rather good, the billies are getting on a bit though looking at them, which probably explains their lack of performance.

I think Air has come quite a long way since the early days. You used to have air if you only goal was to lay frame.

But these days there are more and more track cars running air set ups. Having said that, I still don't think we have got to the stage where it's now overtaken a decent Coilover set up, especially given the vast cost of a decent kit and installation. And I guess the loss of a large chunk of load space.

Mine all sat in the tools area of the spare wheel well, pump and tank. The OE cover almost fit over, a fractionally smaller tank (like 5mm lower) would have sorted it. The dampers were BCs I think looking at them, which are a step down from the billies (which are hardly cutting edge or high end). So I think bags are a fine replacement for springs ideally with a better damper.
