I am going to be fitting a DAB stereo shortly and have been looking at alternatives to using the stick on the windscreen aeriel and wondered if this would work so I can use the existing car aerial.

Using existing aerial for DAB
Re: Using existing aerial for DAB
Maybe if you bypass the diversity unit. Maybe try it on one of the rear window antenna / amp units if you have an Avant.

I was hoping it was a case of just plugging it in behind the headunit

It's all about the frequency range of the aerial. AUDI or someone should be able to tell you the frequency range for the unit fitted to your car. If your DAB transmission is within that frequency range then it'll be OK. There are also things like gain and amplification that may be integral to your system. Every country is different.

If the diversity unit isn't driven by the head unit, you will get no reception of any kind. Only the OE head units drive the diversity unit so you will have to find a way of bypassing it and using one of the 4/5 antennas directly.
