Squeaking brakes

Post by rs666 » Thu Dec 29, 2005 5:25 pm

Just had new discs and pads all round and the fronts really squeak when braking lightly. Just when crawling and stopping in traffic. If braking at higher speeds no problem.

Its doing me head in and embarassing when people are admiring car only to hear it squeal like a pig!

Quite normal for new brakes. It will soon stop.

Depends how often you use the car of course, but I recently had the pads & discs changed on my S4 and it took a good week (about 250 miles) for the brakes to bed in and stop squeaking.

Dont be embarassed by this temporary inconvenience - the sound of your exhaust will easily make up for it!!!

Mine squeal with the sound of a thousand pigs.

My apologies to the lady at the M6 toll booth who cringed as she was near deafened as I approached - my ears were ringing for some time afterwards as the sound reflected from the booth through the open car window.
The brakes have 10k+ miles on them.

Demon, have they changed the pads?

I wondered if had anything to do with the salt on the roads this time of year?

Although OEM they are Pagid pads, anyone experienced it on Pagids?

Unfortunatley Damon, it's a known trait of the car.

Some new pads are better than others but i've no idea why. They all seem to squeal when new & when running low, but some spend their whole life squealing. No cure, just cross your fingers.

The car has just under 9000 miles and I have just been told by my dealer they want £820 for new front discs and pads..........bargain if it stops the squealing

Not very happy though - and it's never been tracked either

I've got Audi Customer Services on the case but I didn't find them very helpful so I'm not holding my breath

Had a week without squeeling and then it returned this morning. Might it be related to the conditions....will try and determine a trend

RS666 - did your squeeling brakes dissappear?

After have my fronts were changed on Friday I waited anxiously all weekend waiting for the squeeling to start ... and nothing happened. I breethed a sigh of relief and then on my way to work this morning they started to squeel good and proper ... at first I thought it was the clapped out cavalier next to me at the lights only to find to my shame that it was mine. I'm not sure I could maintain my sanity if they stay like this for mile after mile ... some high speed stops might be what the doctor ordered!!!

Rich.
