That is steep! I thought mine was expensive enough - £390, back in May.

I didn't book it yet - I just asked for a price, they may be trying it on.
The average seems to be around £450.

My guess is they checked the cam-belt which is an additional cost of about £350. NOTE, that Audi again changed the RS6 service schedule around September this year so it now does NOT need the cam-belt checking at 20K miles. I got stung in the summer as Audi introduced this check item for only about 6 months during the middle of this year.

If your dealer has checked the cam-belt & charged you for it, you should be able to object & request a part-refund as the cam-belt check is no longer a service requirement.

Hello Paul,

I have been doing some more ringing around - it's better than a random number generator. I doubt if any service department actually knows hows to carry out this service correctly.
Is the RS6 a variable service interval car? Mine apparently is, although I was told it was fixed when I bought it.
Do the plugs need to be changed? Some say yes, some say no.
Don't even ask about the cambelt - apparently it doesn't have one- it has a timing chain.

Confused. :?

Firstly, the RS6 is NOT & has never been variable servicing. The schedule states 12 months or circa 10K miles, whichever comes around 1st. The DIS has a service indicator, accessible from the menu button near the handbrake & this dictates when a service is due. I'm averaging about 7K miles between servcing, but i do enjoy my car plenty :o

The dealer is correct, it is actually a timing belt it's just the service schedule states it as a cam-belt check/change, not timing belt but for the sake of Audi, they are one & the same.

99.9% sure that plugs get changed every 2nd service (around 18-20K miles) mine got changed at the 2nd service & it was quite pricey but as stated earlier, i got stung for the short term inclusion of a 20K timing/cam-belt check.

No, the RS6 is definitely not eligible for the Variable Service Interval regime. However, many service departments (mine did) will try to tell you that it is!

My second service doas not appear to have included a plug change.

Confused indeed! Probably because the RS6 came out after the release of the newer V8 (used in S4, allroad etc), which does have a chain.

Now i'm confused.

I was told the RS6 had a timing chain, but it was still called a cam-belt in the service schedule.

Is it a cam-belt or a timing belt?

The RS6 has a toothed belt driven by the crankshaft, and providing drive to the camshafts. It is this belt which requires periodic renewal. The part number is 078 109 119 H. There are two short chains, but these merely couple the inlet and exhaust camshafts within each head.

Accessing the belt is a fairly major exercise, involving removal of the front bumper, anti roll bar, etc.
