Gearbox query

Post by Demon » Tue Dec 13, 2005 8:08 am

Well I'm assuming it's a gearbox query.

When travelling along with light throttle travel in 5th and accelerate with medium throttle travel the gearbox seems to surge and doesn't seem to know what gear it's in, it almost feels like it's misfiring.

Light throttle or foot to the floor it's ok

Has anybody else had a similar problem ?

The engine/gearbox was modified to stage 1. (through an Audi Dealer) over three months ago but I've only had this problem over the last 2/3 weeks.

The obvious answer is take it back to the Dealer but it would be nice to know what the problem is before I book it in !

Was the gearbox remapped at the same time?

A mild remap to under 500bhp like the RS6+ or MTM thats on mine doesn't require the gearbox to be adjusted. But a more powerful remap for 500bhp+ requires the gearbox ECU torque limiter to be adjusted.

The gearbox ECU has a torque limit that will instruct the engine ECU to back off the power if the torque is causing a problem.

Your problem doesn't necessarily sound like a limit issue, but it is important to understand what was remapped and eliminate this potential intervention.

Thanks for the quick reply, yes the gearbox was re-mapped at the same time.

The figures I was given were, 501bhp and 505 lb/ft

W8 PMC has some experience in this area, but is on his honeymoon atm.

Back in a week or so.

When I had the MTM Stage 1 (505BHP, 750Nm) the gearbox was not reprogrammed by MTM. The Stage 2 upgrade (540BHP, 750Nm) required the gearbox reprogramming. This I was told was to stop the gearbox jamming between gears.
