50 bhp - stage 1

Post by BigMo » Fri Nov 25, 2005 10:51 am

after having met a few decent chaps at our local RS246 meet, I am still questioning the need to go for the 50bhp upgrade on the beast. The guys did answer some of my questions and I have gone a lot into the numerous companies selling these tuning packages. However does present me with the following questions:

1) Is there much difference in acceleration (ie 0-60/100/max speeds)
2) What difference will it make to fuel consumption (I assume the worse)

Cheers chaps

I have an RS6+ which had the MTM Stage 1 tune. The difference is very noticeable with a massive amount of mid range torque negating gear changing. The figures from this were 505BHP, 755Nm. I have now had the Stage 2 fitted to take it to 540BHP and 750Nm. The difference is mind boggling, massive acceleration with no noticeable tail off until over 6k rpm. I was advised that a Stage 3 is not worth the money but I would go for a Stage 1 then save up for a Stage 2.

Quoted figures aint worth the paper their written on, real world is where it's at.

Mine is probably at stage 3+ but is Sportec, AMD & Milltek as they're my prefered tuner. Mine is currently at 553.2BHP & 563lbsft (764nm), so the difference is mind blowing. She dispatches 60 in only 4 secs & will has been rr'd at just over 203mph.

Been head to head with a DMS modified new M5 & the sprint & top-end result was a dead heat.

Looks like you did well on the airfield the other day hitting 181MPH.....it just goes to show just how fast the M5 is though doesn't it, as i doubt it had much more horse power derestricted than it would over standard as it is normally aspirated. And the M6 is even quicker than the M5.

Nice to see an Audi up there with the big guns though :D

Cheers,

Regarding the M5, it's not quite as you may think. The car's power output was 545BHP & a fairly chunky torque figure (can't recall what it was). Rob who's car it is, is the owner of DMS so it's not only been re-mapped, he's tweaked the rev-limiters in certain gears & generally tinkered around with the car.

I went out for a passenger run with him in his V10 monster & it really is a fabulous car, but as reported by Top Gear with the M6 it is fairly complicated to master with all those whizzy gadgets. A traffic light grand prix would almost be a gimme to the competition as it takes a few mins to set everything up for rapid starts. Also traction is an issue, as pushing on he had a quite a big spin & had to re-boot the car (not joking).

Fab piece of kit, but i'm not un-happy i sold my M5 slot (for a nice chunk of change) & kept the RS6.

Revo quote 520bhp on their stage1 remap for the RS6/6+ which costs £899+vat....which might be interesting depending on your location, as revo have dealers all round the place, so likely tobe one local.

I have used MTM since 1983 to modify my Audis. Having visited the Audi factory in Ingolstadt and MTM (only a stones throw away), it is obvious that MTM and Audi have a close working relationship so that MTM are able to improve the performance of the engine without going too far. I have had 9 Audis modified and never had a problem with any of them. I would recommend MTM as one of the safer bets for Audi modifications. RS6 MTM Stage 1 is 505BHP and Stage 2 is 540BHP, in both cases the torque being about 750Nm. These are figures that I have seen on my car on a rolling road.

My RS6 is MTM remapped with a Milltek exhaust and puts out 490bhp with 547lb/ft torque. MTM have not remapped the gearbox to allow it to take more torque so its a safer option IMO.
