Bosch fuel pump issues

Post by Ajc » Sat May 19, 2018 8:19 am

I've been running my car with an online 044 for a while without any issues what so ever . Though this morning the pump didn't fire. After a couple of love taps it's started , but sound almost like it was cavitating.
I've had these pumps on plenty of other cars and not had an issue . The only differences in this set up is that it's fed by a lift pump and I've retained the check valve on the end of the pump .
When ever I've run them before , it's been in AN fittings and I've never used a check valve .
The pump is filtered pre inlet so I don't think it's going to be a contamination issue . Any thoughts on the cause ?, or have I just been unlucky ?
Cheers Al

Could just be a bad lifter pump. They do fail. Could be the fuel pump controller, but failure is rare.

You can test the voltage to the lifter. Should be 12/13V when cranking, dropping to 10V after a second or 2.

Cheers Ben, I'll go grab my meter from work and see what the voltages are like . I have the stock pump too, so I could throw that back on and see anything changes

And now the drivers door lock has stopped locking as well :bash: .
I really do wonder why I like this car so much some times !!!!!!. All it does is empty my wallet .
It does seem like the main pump was at fault , I've tested feeds to the lift pump and main pump , both at at 12v on crank .
The Shop I bought the 044 off have fuc*ed me off .so looks like I'll be forking out for another .
I may upgrade the in tank pump whilst I'm at it though .
Cheers Al

You'd think I'd be used to it after 2 and a half years . I just keep kidding myself that the list of jobs will end one day

It will. Just not the way you think it will.

The list just evolves into different projects on it balanced around servicing it
