18'' Rims any use for potholes?
I had the misfortune to tackle the narrow twisty section of the Loch Lomond road in the dark and wet last week. Two nearside and one offside crash as tyre and suspension met craters in the road. I'm on 19'' OEM rims and Billstein coilovers. Anyone changed from 19s to 18s and found it helpful? I have knocked alignment out several times and punctured the inner wall of the front on these things. Most roads up here have never recovered from winter 2010/11 and I can't see smooth tarmac on wee Nicola's agenda. I need a plan B.posting.php?mode=post&f=2#

18 inchers would definitely help to absorb some of the impact. The PSS9 are a bit unforgiving on potholes. I cringe every time I hit the bump stops. Which is pretty much every time I hit an imperfection in the road.
Maybe you should get an Allroad and transplant the suspension from it.

Mmm, I had the Legacy Turbo Estate and traded for the 3 litre Outback. It was certainly smooth but not enough oomph.
I have no idea how the more exotic supercars cope with the roads? These must be a magnet for front spoilers and low suspension arms.
Most of the potholes are nearside and scaring the passengers. It's ammunition for them to campaign for a more sensible car...

Smaller rims = deeper tyre sidewalls, definitely an improvement when the roads are damaged.
I keep my S8 on 18's (with winter tyres) from early November until April (or later) only putting the summer 20's on when the roads are looking better.
Many councils have road repair budgets tied to the financial year end (5th April) so you get a flurry of minor repairs either just before (budget surplus to spend) or after (backlog of repairs from previous year to clear) that date.
