Where is the best place to buy VCDS and will it do the RS6 and my son's Scirroco 2010 ?

Yes. It will do both.

I got mine from ilexa.co.uk.

Gendan also do them.

/I don't know what the licensing is like these days. They went down in my estimation when they limited the number of cars you could scan. I've used mine on a lot of different cars. Just fellow enthusiasts. I would hate to say to someone that I couldn't scan their car because my license only allows 3 cars or something.

There's a lot of info on there about the vin limits. The only version I would consider is the pro version which is what they all used to be. Except that now it's very expensive. But then I do a lot more than just read codes and reset. There are 20 quid tools on Amazon that can do that.

/bitter rant off.

Had a look on  ilexa.co.uk. and there's 3 types, 3 vin £229, 10 vin £280 I think and professional £450.
2nd hand professional would be handy but is pricey.

It's an extremely useful tool. Maybe the vin limit isn't an issue for you.

There are a couple on Ebay. Be interesting to see what they go for.

I have the old Hex USB Pro set, does that mean I will be limited from now on?

No, they're not limiting those. Just the new ones. They're not Photobucket.

Try to find an old HEX+CAN interface, better value for your needs and for that matter you need both K-line (actually Dual K-line in RS6 C5) and CAN support. There was also a cable with only CANbus support (Micro-Can)
