Steering wheel swap

Post by SayHey » Tue Aug 22, 2017 10:54 am

Hi!

Can you advice me how to swap 4 spoke heated steering wheel with audio control buttons to plain 3 spoke wheel with paddle shifters?
Is it bolt on?

I have take old wheel away and it seems like it is not direct swap.
Are shifter buttons work via CAN bus or they are the same ad paddle shifters?

I highly doubt the paddles communicate directly to the CANbus. They probably have their own LIN/LON bus and then a control module translates those commands and sends them to the powertrain canbus. Most probably you need a new module as well, since the MFSW relay talks only on the comfort canbus (which is completely different and separate from the powertrain canbus)

I was going to mention that I think you need a different set of slip rings IIRC - but I won't as discussion about CAN buses seems much more exciting!

Well - you say that, but the steering columns are the same part number (the different columns available are manual or electric adjust), as is the indicator switches that go on them.
I'm afraid I can't actually be arsed to browse through all the wiring looms available to see if they're different, but you can browse the entire parts catalogue, if you can be arsed, here
