Clicking front right on braking/set off....at my wits end!
Clicking front right on braking/set off....at my wits end!
Greetings to you all!
To cut a long story short, bought our first C5 RS6 a few weeks ago and come across our first issue
Upon braking and then when setting off again there is a clicking/creaking on the front right hand side
Here is a list of items changed:
Both upper control arms (one had lots of play in elongated bush)
Both lower control arms
Outer cv joint (this was very loose and worn)
Wheel bearing (had slight play)
Front pads and discs (needed changing anyway). Firstly tried Pagid pads, they became noisy so changed to 'brembo' branded. Checked all sliders etc and all tight and lubed.
So, basically we have changed the whole front offside.....still no better
We just cannot pinpoint the component source at all
Has anyone had anything similar? The noise seems to occur on the shifting of the cars weight. When setting off from traffic lights and from coming to a slow stop
Thanks in advance

Re: Clicking front right on braking/set off....at my wits end!
Thanks for that!
The top mounts we're going to be my next victim!
Haven't had too much to do with the coilovers suspension that is on my C5, but I am guessing I should just swap out the top mount and tighten everything down again?
Thanks in advance
I shall get some pictures up soon!

Re: Clicking front right on braking/set off....at my wits end!
I've had a good look at it with the undertray off
There doesn't seem to be any movement in the links or where it bolts to the frame, I am going to change both links for the sake of the cost anyway as I don't know when they were last changed
Re: Clicking front right on braking/set off....at my wits end!
I had a clicking noise once. turned out to be a missing bolt between the upright and the carrier.. Made one last (pretty loud) click once the other remaining bolt snapped and let the caliper go.
Re: Clicking front right on braking/set off....at my wits end!
Aye I can rule this out because I have had the calliper off twice to do the other work and I torqued the bolts up correctly each time

Re: Clicking front right on braking/set off....at my wits end!
I had that last year. Top arm bush and new front brakes sorted mine. Also worth checking there isn't a stone wedged in the tyre tread somewhere.

Possibly inner CV joints.

They fail fairly frequently. Any vibration under load?

Update:
I disconnected the anti roll bar and went for a drive, noise still there
I then took the rear lower arm completely off again and inspected it......it was in bits. Replaced with a lemforder item and now all is fine
