Service interval query

Post by Demon » Sun May 15, 2005 11:55 am

Following on from the interesting service cost thread, I have a service interval query.

What is the service interval for an RS6, is it 12 months/10000 miles or does it depend on how you drive.

Car RS6 Avant
Reg March 2004

The reason I ask is, I purchased my car in March (1 year old) with 1980 miles on the clock, it was serviced by the dealer at the time of purchase.(oil service) The mileage now shows 3350 and I noticed the service interval is down to 7100 miles to go. The display had been re-set at the time of service because I remember the "mileage to service" figure stayed the same for "x" amount of miles as per notes in the service book, but this is the first time I've pressed the service button since then.

I was expecting the display to show a lot more miles to the next service.

Can somebody please explain how it works

I think it depends on how you use the car. For instance if you make a lot of short journeys it will bring the service indicator down quicker. You can't win because regardless of this it needs a once a year time service.

12 months or 10k miles - whichever comes first (according to my dealer). Variable servicing will show different due distances as per wboard's answer, but use this as a guide only. It may also indicate you need to keep topping up to max to dilute the "dirty" oil which triggers the calculation.

I have no idea on the genuine answer & a Dealer i'm sure would have no obvious idea.

Mine is having its 2nd service this week & the service indicator shows "Due in 200 miles" but i've only done 17100 miles, so go figure :?

Most of my journeys in the RS6 are fairly lengthy with the bulk being a 200mile drive to London, then back a day or 2 later. The missus's car gets used for local runs. Audi CS said it depends on driving style & i drive the car like i've stolen it most of the time, so i can sort of believe Audi's theory.

Maybe that's why mine is dropping so quick, :P although most of my journeys are 10 miles at a time with 4 of those in stop start traffic. I checked again this morning and after travelling 40 odd miles I expected the figure to drop to 7060 to go but it still says 7100.

I will check the oil though.

At the time I took delivery of my car, I was told that the RS6 is not eligible for Variable Service Interval - it's a fixed 10,000/12 months. This advice would seem to be supported by the fact that the oil recommended in the Owner's Manual is not of the long-life variety.

When my RS6+ was delivered I was told to ignore the variable service indicator and bring it in every 10k miles.
