Best Tyres
Hey Guys,
Was just wondering which tyres you would recomend for my RS 6, currently running on the Pirelli P-Zero 255/35 ZR19's and was wondering what would be the best replacment, I hear Continentals are good but are made of a harder compound, any feedback would be much appreciated,

RE: Best Tyres
Mich Pilot Sports without question. They seem to be the most expensive option, but they feel so much better in the wet/dry & track than the Conti's & i've only ever heard poor things about the Pirelli's

RE: Best Tyres
it depends on your driving style -
The smooth is fast schoool like the Conti Sport Contact 2 tyres (look at what the Audi Works Race drivers have on their cars).
The more tail happy go for the PS2 tyres, also very old race drivers and ex Porsche shoes like these.
Track nuts like the PS Cup and Pirelli Corsas.
There are some excellent Yokohama AVS Sport tyres which are a little oversize for the 19 inch rim, which gives you extra protection and are a great driving tyre. These are known in fast circles as the "Mrs Lennons".
One of the problems I have with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres is that they are too progressive, so they start warning you they are reaching their limits too soon. The Contis keep quiet until closer to the event.

RE: Best Tyres
Been running with the yokohamas avs on both 18 and 19 inch rims and very happy with them, only gripe is they can be a little noisey on certain road surfaces or if they are under inflated any. Been meaning to try the ps2 for a while but with the avs feeling as good as they do and the considerably higher cost of the michelin I'm not all that bothered about shelling out to find out.
TimJms ran 265/30/19 AVS AML Sport (Aston Martin standard fit) on rs6 19" rims on his rs4 with no problems.
Last time I bought them they were approx £128 +vat each - bargain! (believe it or not the 18" AVS are more expensive at about £150 + vat????).

Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

The new Mich PS2's have rim protection (handy to have) & for fast driving & wet weather, they show the Conti's a clean pair of heals. Wish i'd fitted them sooner.Nordschleife wrote:it depends on your driving style -

I'm just coming up to replacing the tyres on my car (7000 miles) and can't find anywhere that even comes close to that price. Are you willing to share the name of your supplier?TimJms ran 265/30/19 AVS AML Sport (Aston Martin standard fit) on rs6 19" rims on his rs4 with no problems.

Just replaced all 4 contis on my RS6 with DUNLOP SP SPORT 9000 RS as these were fitted to some of the very first 6s and have to say they have a far better grip in the dry and the wet than the contis ever did the only down side is that road noise is increased slightly over that of the contis .
(they fitted dunlops to the new yellow RS4 that they showed at 25 years of quattro recently)
Dont know about the cost of the other tyres mentioned here but the dunlops were £700 all in for 4 from national tyres and i didnt think that was 2 bad.
cheers mark.

It appears that Quickfit here in Aberdeen runs offers each month - buy 3 tyres get forth free. Continental last month, Michelin this month. £660 for conti sport 2, 4 tyres fitted (255/35/zr19). £800 approx for michelin pilot sports. Sounds pretty good!

I don't think it's just Aberdeen. Kwik Fit down here were doing the same 4 for the price of 3 deal. However, maybe your branch is a little more scrupulous as mine seemed to up the price of the "4 for 3" Michelins by about 33% when the deal was announced. So 4 tyres at £230 each i.e. £920 became 4 for the price of 3 tyres at £307 each i.e. (can somebody help me with the sums?)drbroadbent wrote:It appears that Quickfit here in Aberdeen runs offers each month - buy 3 tyres get forth free.
