RS6 Brakes Again??

Post by W8PMC » Thu Mar 31, 2005 8:25 am

Given that with the various Sportec performance parts due to be fitted on the 12th April, i'll be punching through the 550BHP mark, i really need to look at any options to improve the OEM brakes on the beast.

I've had no joy with either pad or calliper upgrades, although i do feel that the callipers are not the weakest link given they're Brembo's & are 8-pot fronts, so i'm now contimplating an upgrade for the discs. The new OEM pads i got fitted just before my recent track day at Combe, appeared to perform much better than the previous OEM pads, so perhaps the originals from new were just from a duff batch.

My question is about disc size & available options. I know the callipers are larger on the RS6 than the RS4, but are the disc sizes & fitments the same on both cars? AmD can do drilled discs (365mm fronts) for the RS4 at a much lower cost than Audi quote & these are Quattro GMBH origin so should perform well.

My local Audi dealer wanted £250 per corner :o to fit the drilled discs that were an option on the RS6 & standard on the Plus, but i know the very small improvement in braking from just discs is not worth £1000.

Any comments or advice will be gratefully received. :)

You can futz around with brakes or you can get serious. In this case serious is spelt M O V ' I T.

Incidentally, one of the reasons RS6s have brake problems on track IS the crappy design of the expensive Brembo callipers - small swept pad areas.

Recently a Swiss tuner modified a Porsche Carrera in a pretty horrible way. In order to attract attention he set a new world braking record, using........ Mov'it brakes.

Talk to the guys who have been through all the pain with their RS4 brakes. Upgrading the rear brakes is worth it too.
