Kerbed my two offside wheels today

Post by philipr » Sat Dec 11, 2004 10:31 pm

Drat!

I have had my RS6 for a month having traded from a 996. I love it. No, I adore it.

I am a victim of my paranoia. Was in a car park today - and tried to park as far away from next car to avoid dings. Didn't notice a low kerb and did the inevitible.

Do I:
1. Have them fixed - is this ever satisfactory - and if so, by whom
2. Replace them (what is the cost?)
3. By a set of RS6 plus wheels? (ditto)

Please let me know asap

I was gutted when the garage did the first kerb damage to mine when they dropped it back. I wanted blood. Seems pointles now that I've caught the other three!

At least the P zeros on my Porsche have a bit of a rim that sticks out past the wheel and protects it a bit.

I want to get mine done but I'm worried I'll do them all again.

Most Audi dealers have a contact who repairs alloys. When I bought mine one of the alloys had been kerbed and they repaired this before I collected it. I've had a really close look and can't tell it had ever been damaged.
It might be worth looking at tyre options when your existing ones are worn out. Mine have a thick rubber rim which protrudes further than the alloys do, preventing most accidental contacts. A previous demonstrator I drove didn't and all four wheels were badly scratched as the alloys stuck out further than the rubber!

I might stand corrected but I gather it's ok to repair wheels as long as they are scratched but not bent....? (so you should be ok using one of the many repairers who are around)

Thanks for responses.

The tyres are Contis - with no safety band.

Can anyone recommend a repairer. I am based in glasgow.

Wicked Wheels (recommended by Audi Glasgow) have done a great job.
