Coventry Listers Audi

Post by sulli » Wed Oct 23, 2013 9:46 am

Dropped them an email to enquire about 75k service and gearbox oil change, just to give me an idea.
Got a call back this morning from a woman who didn't know the difference between an RS6 and an A6, was very confused and had to call me back after talking to her service manager. Once she had done this she told me that her manager had advised that the gearboxes are lifetime sealed and don't need a service. I told her this was incorrect but she wasn't able to quote anyway as she said it wasn't something they did as it wasn't on their system.
As for the service cost, an EX40 service, that includes oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, screen wash(?????) and check is £607!!!!! If I want plugs doing its an extra £279.
So all in all, have no faith in them touching my car, and even if I did they are extortionate....
Saying that, I think the main listers service desk are probably the issue, a good mate of mine woks for Listers so I will see if Cov Audi know their 6s.

So ~£115 in parts and £500 in labour :audibash:

Plugs are <£100 too - so £180 labour.

With the exception of MRC, whom I am looking into, are there any other recommended servicers for our cars in the Midlands?
The funny thing is I can get a 10k service and gearbox service for aound £600 at MRC!!!

My service with Audi recently was cheaper than any independent. The right dealer will haggle, they charged me about £100 labour to change my spark plugs, specialists wanted around £400. I only used Audi because I have the extended warranty or it would have been MRC, don't even consider any other garage when MRC are so close to us.

Did you not push them for discount as mine had its 75k service there for £500 all in including fitting 2 rear parking sensors and the replacement undertray which I supplied. (I didn't have spare time to fit them myself). It helps if you speak to Paul in parts push for a discount then ask them to fit and service at a discounted labour rate. I think I paid £70-£80 an hour labour inc VAT as against normally £120.

As a price comparison MRC were £470 but with the hassle of travel and return and a day off work needed I took the easy option and the free courtesy car.

I'd be surprised if any Audi dealer will service the gearbox on a RS6 though as it's not on the Audi service schedule at any point. It's only on the ZF recommended service schedule for that gearbox!

Just be careful that if don't get MRC to carry it out then whoever does your gearbox service uses the RS6 gearbox filter not the standard ZF filter as I believe the sumps are different and hence the pickup for the filters slightly different lengths and the standard ZF filter can starve the gearbox of oil as it sits too close to the base of the sump.

It was their call centre, so my mate is having a chat to the Service Manager there as well as a couple of master techs.
Will do re. the filter.

That was through Stafford via this link.

And you're right, the quotes are done by the contact centre at most dealerships.

Cov Audi changed the box oil on my A8 years ago, that's also 'sealed for life'. Who's your contact there? Could prove useful for me. Could you PM me?

Off the top of my head it was
Plugs change
Oil and filter change
Pollen filters
Fuel filter, Air filter.
Intercoolers check and clean.
And the usual inspections such as DRC/Shocks, steering and suspension wear, brakes, tyres and leaks.
I would never doubt they look for worn components and leaks as that's when they get to dry hump you.

I'm liking that link for the future. I usually have a face to face with a someone in parts and he gets me the discount from service. He's a top bloke if you think it will help. He owned an S6 C5 which although not the same the cost of running it makes him sympathetic.

Parts guy at Cov Audi is brill. Went out of his way to get me a locking wheel nut and given me a few low cost parts at goodwill.

She was correct when she told you "her manager had advised that the gearboxes are lifetime sealed and don't need a service"
about 10 months ago I went into Lister Audi Coventry and spoke with the service manager at the time regarding an oil change .He told me that its not listed as a serviceable item on dealers systems. He also went on to tell me that they tend not to do oil changes or top ups on RS6 gearboxes, as their past experience's showed that the cars they've worked on seem to get worse very soon after..... He did add that those may of been gearboxes that it was to late to save though.

Without prompting, he then told me the 'correct' recognised method of changing the box oil , even as far as saying they would want the car the night before so it was stone cold in the morning so they can be sure of the temp in the g/box before they get it up to temperature.

He did seem to know what he was on about in the conversation tbh.
