Re: possessed fans!
Fan module wouldn't explain why both fans are running. The fans are independent and each has its own module.
Could be a dodgy temperature sender which is telling the ECU to keep the fans running. They can stay running for about 6 minutes after the engine is shut off. If your battery is weak, this could explain why it's being drained. If they both stay running longer than 10 minutes then you need to start investigating to see if the ECU is still powered up 15 mins after switching the engine off. If so then possibly there's a dodgy J271 relay, but I'm grasping at straws.

Re: possessed fans!
Thanks folks I'll keep u updated for others info in the future
Re: possessed fans!
If the fans stay running when you put the ignition back on run Vagcom and it will tell you the duty fan cycle and what is telling them to run. Oil temp and water temp and possibility air temp will run them with ignition off
Re: possessed fans!
Ok peeps this is where we are, j271 replaced and at present all is behaving but will keep u updated for future reference, but on the initial fault, all fans would stop if ignition was switched on and reset and the last time they did start up on there own was just a shade longer than 15 minutes after switching off so thanks for all the help and am off putting thrash it within an inch of its life for misbehaving, thanks again
Re: possessed fans!
Ok chaps and chapettes this s where I am, all has been well until tonight, switched off the car and all went silent bug yet again after the 15 minutes the fans fired up and ran full belt until I introduced the ignition and at which time they stopped, pulled the keys out and left it, again 15 mins later they restarted, so currently just disconnected the leads until further investigation, and further advice would help Ta:-)
