Wish me luck everybody. Car is booked in for 2 days on 1st & 2nd Aug for the big cam-belt change service.
Hope nothing else is uncovered at the same time.

Also going to get new tyres and a 4-wheel alignment done when it comes back from the service.

Good luck. Lets hope you've picked a good place. I had to change mine coz the last person didn't do the thermostat. Then I found they didnt replace the rollers, pulleys or tensioner when I checked the date on them. And to top that of they tensioned the belt the wrong way! So kinda glad the thermostat failed first.

Yes, a little cautious about getting this done. It's the first one which I have had done in my ownership so concious that it needs to be done 'right'.

Taking it to Newbury Audi to get sorted. They reckon that it should take a full day to complete (also got one or two other minor bits and bobs for them to do while it's there) and I've ensured that all rollers, thermostat, water-pump is done at the same time.

Then I think it is time to treat it to new tyres and a 4-wheel alignment, but might think about getting the wheels re-furbished before new tyres are fitted... but I'll have to get this signed off by my financial controller first!

I wonder if the C7 RS6 is available as a courtesy car!?!?

As your sig says you are Bristol based, why take it to Newbury?? Much better to take it to Bicester and let MRC do the work - guaranteed cheaper, and more thorough - and you quietly ask them to give it a tweak at the same time!!

Yes, I do normally take it to MRC (via a visit to the In-Laws who live close, to collect some brownie points) but have managed to get Staff-Rates at Newbury Dealership (legitimately, I must add!) via a family member which is a significant saving of the folding money for me.

It's back!
Cam-belt done (together with all pulleys, rollers, tensioners etc). Water pump and thermostat done.
Normal service done (oil, filter, pollen filter, spark plugs etc)
Seems to drive really well now. I hope it is because of the service, but probably more of a Placebo effect or that I've just got used to the A6 diesel courtesy car that I had?!

Did get a few 'advisory' bits for attention at some point:

Vacuum Piopes showing signs of slight deterioration in engine bay. I don't know what these are, or where they are. Are they easily accessible and attached with a jubilee clip at each end? Could I replace them myself in 30 mins or so?

ARB bushes showign signs of slight deterororation. Again, not sure if this is a DIY jobbie on the driveway, or best left to the professionals?

2 rear parking sensors required. Is this a DIY job, or do I need to remove the rear bumper?

The vacuum pipes are easy enough. You can replace them with silicone ones. DavePerc did a post on it a while back. Have a search. You'll have to take the air box off. It's a shame they didn't do it for you when they were doing the plugs. It would have taken no time at all.

ARB bushes are easy enough if you not too useless with the spanners.

Yes - but they didn't have any in-stock, I wanted the car back on Saturday and they haven't failed yet, just need doing at some point shortly. Would like to do these myself if they are straight-forward. Were they right in saying that if they did fail, the only effect would be that I would lose a bit of power...no catestrophic damage caused by bits of perished rubber going into places it shouldn't be going into?

I know how to use a spanner, but not sure about the ARB bushes myself. Might just leave it to the professionals rather than risking getting the old ones off and then not being able to put the new ones back on for some reason.
Can you get 'uprated' ones rather than just OEM ones. Polyflex keep coming up in the Classic Ford arena (I did have a Mk1 Escort, now have a Mk1 Transit) as polyurathane bushes which last longer than rubber ones.
I guess failure will just result in the handling going a bit wooly? A knocking noise going over bumps / round corners? Again, no damage caused when they fail as long as I don't keep driving with them knackered?

Here you go, think this is the post, though there may be an earlier one too http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... es#p340345

Easy job, but do take care when removing the clips - easy to snap the plastic nozzles on a few items

Thanks Dave.

Something to tackle next month (once I've finished fitting my new kitchen which seems to be taking up all of my weekends this month!).

Rear parking sensors are a byatch if you don't own ickle hands. I had to take the bumper off to do one of mine.
ARB bushes should be simple enough.
