took a 0-100mph video

Post by robwight » Fri Jun 07, 2013 11:51 pm

GGrrrrr , as mentioned to a few guys was going to try a 1 off 0-100mph video , i warn you now-- the video is SH!T ! aahaha

Driving to the theatre with my wife & eldest in the back...

Conversation goes :-

Me - Do you have any sellotape
her - why ?
me - do you have any in your bag ( she has everything in there )
her - maybe , why
me - emmmmm , im going to sellotape my phone to the steering wheel to record a 0-100 mph video
her - wassat ?
me - just give me the tape, and please no one scream at me when I accelerate fast as I'm videoing :-)

it wasnt prepared or rehearsed , probably the worst car video on YouTube , I should get some credit for that :-)

Anyhoo , what it does show is times , in a non scientific way of course.

I was only having 1 attempt as dont like utilizing the car 100% , car feels indestructable but I'm just to woosy to thrash it..

I messed up the launch good old style ( heres the excuses ) ,I revved to 3k roughly and lifted the clutch ( didnt dump it ) I wheel spinned to much in 1st losing time, and lack of momentum carried into 2nd gear again losing time..wasn't as good as it could be so 0-60 could be a lot better i think , and another boob.. a sloppy change into 3rd.

I'm by no means in anyway experienced in this stuff just thought it would be a challenge & interesting to do & share for a bit banter ..

Anyways the times , I put the video into movie maker which gives you .00 second increments ,speed goes upto just under 110, done it frame by frame for accuracy as its a bit difficult to see the 60 & 100 mark so ended up ..

0-60mph 4.58 secs
0-100mph 8.66 secs

I think of particular note 60-100mph = 4.08 secs , nothing to do with my driving skills or tyres etc , I'm sure this can go sub 4 secs 60-100 ( with 2 less people in car ) , just looked up net and a Koenigsegg CC8S does it in 4 dead.. for a 4 door family saloon I think thats very impressive !

I genuinely think if I had better tyres , a nice tractable road & a few attempts (with 2 less people in the car) sub 4 secs would be easily achievable & 100mph under 8 secs.. Not making excuses & nothing to prove here , just trying to weigh up the scenario in a reasonable way.

Remember , the video is SOOOO bad ,but its worth a chuckle !

WOW ! you was right............... its a :assflash: video , at least none of them screamed though.

the car does seem lively , maybe a better fixing for the camera next time though.
The real test will be if you can do it under controlled conditions, like on a track day, or old airfield or dare i say, against another auto 6 ( emphasise not on public roads though)

yeah this was filmed on a private road , totally.

Agreed I think under controlled conditions track day / airfield would be much better, but as my old man used to say.. 'you can only piss with the cock you've got '
I may try another video 60 + whatever mph as its then it starts to grip & go, and is a lot easier on the car too .

0-60 times is just to hard on any car in my opinion even though this has been modified to take it , so it's was a one off attempt as I have to much mechanical sympathy for motors, and more importantly my pockets aren't deep enough !

Its always nice to know what a car new to yourself can do, but unless you bought it for track/racing, there's no need to hammer it to find its limits.
Once you had the fun runs, you know what it can do .
I get great fun out of not burning away from the lights when the boy racers are next to me. I even let an M5 race away from the lights yesterday as i pulled away gently at the same speed as the other 2 lanes. he flew about 400 yards up the road and i saw his brake lights come on lol....when he was all on his own, he didnt half look a dick though

Not the worst video I have seen. In my opinion if you turn Radio2 off and try again I think a few millisecs could be gained, car will be too chilled out whilst that is on.
You made a big mistake of telling the family not to scream too, that would have made the video more entertaining and also given a better feel for the speed. Car does seem nice and nippy.

I'm struggling to think why anyone would want to piss with another guy's cock...

Sorry, but the time can’t really be regarded as anywhere near accurate, it could be 2-3 seconds out (not to mention the speedo over reads), and that doesn’t sound like much, right? But 2-3 seconds is the difference between an RS 6 and a hot hatch in a 0-60 run. Say another 3 seconds in the 0-100 time.

If you really want to know your 0-60, 0-100 times, buy/borrow/beg/steal a VBox, mate.

8.66 second is impressive, mine does it in 9.0 dead. 0-60 in 4.0 dead with a 1500 launch. Rule VBOX'd.

3 seconds ? really.. c,mon mate lol thats silly .. its there in HD

i know it isnt accurate as in tenths of seconds,i have said that already.

even taking the speedo is a massive exaggerated 10 % out.. ratio of 60-100 is there ( 54-90 ) IF speedo is 10% out like everyone elses..

ive nothing to prove and a humble guy, hence i videod proof rather than talk <beep> like some people do..

in your opinion it could be 3 seconds out,in your opinion it could even be 5,6 or even 10 seconds out whatever you say mate, but its not.
0-100 8.6 is there , black n white ( well colour actually ) ,60-100mph in 4 seconds is there in colour too ,and would be easily bettered with less people in the car and a better driver :-)

i was chuffed with 8.6 , but i know for a fact its quicker than that..

yeah ur right..spun to much 1st & 2nd ..was generally a <beep> 0-60 tbh ,1st attempt.

would like to see some comparible statistics of guys on here ?

could we have a sticky of real world genuine attempts of various 0-100 1/4 mile etc ( no guesses & nonesense )

just a post with relatively accurate proof and times with no debating on tyres / manhood / radio staions etc

would be great general reading & genuinely interesting , and a put up or shut up lol

always good for a banter within the laws of physics on sub threads :-)
