E60 M5 v RS6 Plus

Post by JohnH » Tue Sep 21, 2004 10:52 am

The new E60 M5 and the RS6 Plus will be tested on DSF German TV at 9pm this Friday so if anybody licves in Germany or has a motorised dish in the UK then would be great if you could record it or at least report back on the findings

I have an RS6+ with the MTM stage 1 chip fitted by QST. On their rolling road it develops 505BHP at 5755rpm and 755Nm torque at 5795rpm. Consistently I get a 4sec 0-60 time and 0-124mph in 13.5 secs. The top speed is in excess of 185mph and it was still accelerating at that speed. I have had the car now for just over a month and I always use Shell Optimax. The RS6+ is significantly better than the standard RS6 and now I am used to the larger size, it is in most cases better than my previous RS4.

mwcltd,

Without sounding off, i'm a little surprised at the figures you quote on your modified RS6+. I run an RS6 & have the AmD Stage 2 set-up (engine & gearbox re-map, along with a Milltek) & my power output figures both BHP & Torque are slightly higher than you quote & yet my base OEM power would have been around 25BHP lower. AmD managed to clock just over 510BHP & 460lbsft of torque & that was in fairly warm weather. Was your rolling road accurate & have you used any others? I've had mine on 2 different systems & both gave almost identical figures.

Looking forward to the M5 Vs RS6+ test, as i truly believe that it will be very close on the road.

So, the result is:
The new M5 is much faster, makes more fun and is the better car. No chance for the +!!!!
The M5 is definately faster on the Autobahn, the Rs6+ can't follow. The cornering is great fin in the new M5 (drifts in 3rd gear).
The RS is too gentlemen like.

My personal result: The M5 is the real beast.
Audi has to do something, we are far behind! (most important fact: 7gear SMG!)

Hello W8PMC. When I got to QST we ran the car on the Maha rolling road and the figures were as per specification from Audi. We then repeated the runs with the MTM chip change and got 505BHP and 557lbft (755Nm). These figures were repeatable to within 0.5%. The Maha rolling road is housed in a purpose built building and there is full air flow management to make sure that the engine etc does not overheat. As a matter of interest, we compared a standard RS6+chip to my modified car and although the torque was not much difference at high revs, it was higher at lower revs. We believe that this is to do with the RS6+ having the sports exhaust as standard.

Now i'm even more confused. I can go with the power figures to a degree, although i would have expected the QST re-map to give more than a 30BHP increase, but i'm totally thrown by your torque figure.

Although mine has the AmD stage 2 which incorporates the Milltek sports zorst along with the engine & gearbox re-map, my output figures (repeated twice) gave close to 515bhp & 460lbsft both times. The power i can understand, but such a difference in torque between the 2 cars seems unusual. I have 460ish & yours nearly 560lbsft. How can this be when my BHP is slightly higher than you quote?

I understand that re-maps can be configured differently to allow for customer requests in the way the power/performance is delivered i.e huge boost/bang or a more gradual but sustainable power curve, but the torque figures quoted for your QST MTM set-up & my AmD set-up seem too far apart.

Thanks!

Wow, that is a nice bit of kit, well they both are, but the Beemer looks insane. Don't go much on the interior though - Audi definitely has the upper hand there, and I still prefer the sound of the V8, the V10 is too race like for a road car (I like a bit of bass). Speaking of which, had an old Rover 3500 pull up behind me at the pumps the other day - sounded lovely!!! Sorry, I'm starting to ramble now!
