According to the diagram it's the side that's closest to the filter that is the exit from the cooler.
That would have been interesting laying under the car and wondering which line to attack. Il take it that's the right side of the cooler ie offside in the UK.

Any idea if its temp valve blocked on the feed side (near side) ?

And where is this page of all knowledge as on er in doors iPad and its not as easy as my laptop.

Audi should've made the tensioner spring loaded, I think this would've eliminated the problem.

Left side of the car as you look at it from the front. IIRC that's where the filter is.

Can't find the training manual in Footlong's repository. Odd, I'm sure it was there. Download it from here:

Might be worth changing your oil retention valves, too. That can cause noise valve gear.

Cheers for the link, very usefull! Oil is new and of the specification asked for. Was going to run it for 500miles then replace it to give it a flush so I know where I am with it.

Pg 24 references a thermostatic valve although talking to Merlins today I will still need to purchase their EPC valve to ensure higher than tickover pressure is stored ready for a fresh re-start.

Yes, you are right. It turns out there is a thermostat inside the oil filter housing. Begs the question of what happens when it fails...

There's no part number for the oil temp regulator. You have to buy the whole oil filter bracket which contains it.

*But* the RS4 B5 oil filter bracket is the same part number and you can get the oil temp regulator separately for that. Interesting.

Makes me wonder if mine is working properly. If I look at my throttle a few times oil temp will go above 90 and take ages to come back down. After 1 or 2 short accels it will settle around 100C and stay there. I also hit ~140C on the gauge 2/3rds through a lap of the Nurburgring...

Interesting. I wonder how you could test it. Does your oil cooler get hot? Difficult to say because you've got ATF circulating in there, also. I can't find any information on when it's supposed to open / close etc. I suspect that it's quite a low opening temp.

Might be worth replacing just in case. It's a £50 bit though.

Ah right... but £1500 to fit the dame thing if getting to the filter is anything to go by!
