Aftermarket Stereo people, Kenwood release dual-DIN DAB unit

Post by Mr Footlong » Fri Jul 13, 2012 1:49 pm

Finally, Kenwood have made good and their double DIN DAB-capable head units have been announced on their site and they are appearing as in stock at some suppliers.

Not cheap as expected but when compared to an already behind the times RNS-E retrofit, way better for the likes of me that are desperate for DAB. The aerial I have had sitting around for the last 7 months or so may finally be put to use soon.....

Details here:

http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/pr ... NX4210DAB/

Not loving the knobs on it so will hold out for a 7210-type version unless the wait is too long.......
Current:

Had 2 top of the line Excelleron kenwoods over hear in the States. Both of them were Garbage (Rubbish). The software interfaces were bad and Extremely slow to respond to any input. Software updates were almost nonexistant. I would never buy another Kenwood again and my advice is to stay away, Buy another brand. They are not the Kenwood of old...........

Agreed, I have been warned by a couple of outfits about the interface lottery with the models over the last year of so. From what I have heard at least, they are supposed to have sorted this with this model but I would take that with a pinch of salt before seeing one running yourself.

Grr, I came 'this' close to caving in and buying a RNS-E last night due to running out of patience waiting for an aftermarket unit. I started getting all tarty and wanting the OE look, but was then factoring in wanting speed trap warnings (can only get silent POI ones by bodging it with Navpoint software), then the fact that it would still have to have an ugly external DAB addon of some sort, then the fact that the tech is just plain dated, argh.....

There is that big ass 8" screen Alpine jobbie to consider http://www.alpine-europe.com/p/Products ... /ine-w928r but I reckon it will stick out half a mile instead ofsitting flush, but you have to add in this mess too in order to get DAB - http://www.alpine.uk.com/p/Products/dab3842/ezi-dab

Clarion have a unit that can take a discreet DAB addon but it looks different and I think that would be nasty to look at - http://www.clarion.com/gb/en/products/2 ... 39602.html - again, I think that will stick out heavily instead of sitting flush.

Sorry to waffle, no idea why I am even posting this tbh, just wound up that there isn't a single option that ticks all the boxes for me. Anyway.

When I saw this thread I thought it was for the new Kenwood DNX521DAB in the latest EVO, but it's not so here it is: http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/pr ... DNX521DAB/

Looks like Kenwood have finally realised that there's a market in fully integrated headunits, I wonder if there will be an RNS-E shaped one on the way...

Yep, I have seen that one but I really doubt they will release for our age of car. I think I am going to get the rns-e for a laugh and use that until something comes along that is worthy. I doubt I will lose a huge amount when selling the unit on....
